I replaced some of them. I based replacement on the fit and shape of the ring after pulling it off. If you replace a gear, I’d recommend checking & buying rings as the fit against the shaft may change.
A micrometer and feeler gauge will help here.
After I measured, I bought the size I...
Will, Nice project! At one point I had the FSM docs from the TIS website here https://techinfo.toyota.com/. Sadly, I no longer have my subscription and I cannot find the files.
Per the FSM, you will have to remove the counter gear to remove the input shaft from the output shaft. I think that's what you're talking about with the phrase "counterweight bearing under." You have to go in pretty far on the transmission to get the input shaft off. I would recommend you go...
I am sure there are some different opinions on this but my approach to what I needed was this:
Must do:
* replace all the soft parts including gaskets, seals, and o-rings
* replace all the bearings
Should do:
* replace worn hub sleeves
* replace warped synchros
* replace worn gears
*...
That’s some great info. Thank you for sharing.
I suppose there is some opportunity to update the components like you laid out. My guess is you would have to change the hub sleeve, gear, and synchros for each gear pair. But that would be a fairly expensive experiment.
Awesome! I am not sure on the synchros - I think they are specific to the models and transmission updates. At the very least I think you could cross reference the clutch hubs, the synchros, and the gears to make sure they all match. But I am not sure if they would fit an older/different main...
Not up for trading just yet. I’d like to buy a set, swap them out, and run them for a bit. Then decide if I’m going to change for good or go for something in the middle.
It is doable and I have done just the front before but as @Sc0- said I would pull the case and do it all at once. You will be chasing leaks after you do the front…I did.
