Good morning. I'm not surprised this thread took off.
First and foremost, I thin of myself as an upstanding mud member, and YES, far too trusting with my telephone #. And secondly, I knew right away I got scammed and the likelihood that it...
Thanks, brother!
Sorry for the crappy loss of money. I too, often get comfortable with people on Mud and sometimes don't perform due diligence. Some people suck.
Either way, appreciate the follow-up.
Fortunately she just had the front and rear brakes done last year, with new lines.
That’s comforting on the gear oil smell. I’ll check to make sure the diff breather isn’t clogged. I’ve climbed under there and couldn’t find oil anywhere, so...
I remember the gear oil odor in the rear of my 100 after a hot drive. It was just normal diff breather doing its thing; not clogged.
Make sure the spare tire hoist works and you have all the tire change tools.
I don’t see brakes on your list...
I’ll sell it to you if you really want it. I had new tires installed today and am taking it on its first long trip on Monday, driving my mom back to Fort Wayne. 5.5 hours each way.
That’s an amazing find — $3k for a one-owner, clean-frame truck with nearly 500k is unreal. My LX470 had its own saga (hit while parked, thought the trans was gone, turned out to be just a valve body swap). Still keeping it alive, and stories...
Radiator was replaced in 2019, so assuming it should still be good.
Interestingly, she had the entire front differential replaced by Toyota in 2016 (for about $3300). Maybe she never changed the fluids out...
Thanks for these pictures! So tempting. How close was that paint match to 1D2? I really don't want to do any painting. Also, how much are do you want for it? You can DM me if easier.
What a tribute to the quality of these vehicles from the factory, there aren't many vehicles out there that could boast of that mileage and still look like that. ~21K miles a year for almost a quarter century... wow!
My goal with this truck is simply to minimize any future corrosion (I will not be doing body work - just lots of fluid film and rust prevention to slow it down) and drive it to see how many miles I can get out of it...more of an experiment...
It’s interesting, the color code on the tag shows 1D2 (Thunder Cloud Metallic). However, from a distance and in pictures it looks beige. My wife also thinks it’s not gray. 🤷♂️
Amazing find. The number of people who keep a vehicle for 23 years and 479k miles is almost nil. And with maintenance records too. You’re lucky you found it before I did ;)
Yes, $3000 is good if rust doesn't change that. I wouldn't take $15k for my 2000 with 478k miles.
Although my favorite Land Cruiser with largest cool factor is a stock 80 series, the 100 series is a much more refined and better daily driver...
Nice, that's a good fine for sure. A set of tires and rims almost cost that much nowadays.
Yeah I hear you, the 80 series has a better off road reputation and world wide heritage but I'm still fighting for the 100 series to hold higher values...
I don't know about the 100 series becoming the most desired...the 80 will be pretty competitive for that spot. The 100 rides much nicer though!!!
I paid $3k for it.
Stories like that are why we love these Cruisers. There aren't many enthusiast crowds as fervent or loyal. (Or happy)
Maybe point her towards an LX700h or LX600, or a Sequoia for that matter.
Call me a glutton for punishment, potentially. I found this 2002 for sale locally and was intrigued. It was being sold by the original owner (who is now 77). She was from SoCal and moved here about 10 years ago. Had a stack of maintenance records...
