I would trust a factory sealed 3UR that’s American made over a remanned 3UR that’s Japanese.
The American 3UR’s are great motors that easily last to 300k miles… just try and find one post 2011-2013ish to avoid the bad valve spring problems.
Nope...from my POV, there isn't a good solution. I am not opposed to a Tundra or Sequoia 3UR. I'm trying not to get hung up on the fact that Tundra and Sequoia 3UR's aren't made in Japan like our 200-Series 3URs. It's how to verify functionality...
The 3UR is designed to be rebuilt 3 times. I think first time is a light honing, second time is boring 0.010 over, second time is slightly larger boring, but don't quote me on the specifics. I'll have to find that article, but if the shop is...
I've poked around some. A few that keep popping up include Fraser Engines and Transmissions and Phoenix Engine Specialists. Both offer reman 3UR-FE crate engines. Remanufactured makes me nervous. But I know it's nothing new. I'm going to let...
Yep. And there are upgraded valve spring kits out there with titanium retainers
I keep seeing these pop up when searching 3UR-FE valve springs. It’s a Manley valve spring kit with titanium retainers for the 3UR. But wouldn’t this application be...
…I’m already poking around for a blue onyx on terra cotta. My connection with Pacific Blue stems from growing up in my godparents blue FJ60. Man this is tearing me up!

Yes, we're in alignment here. I'd address all of that and do a ton of PM at the same time. But that will just continue to drive costs up and up. At some point it just makes more financial sense to move on. If I had a built truck like yours, I...
Right? QDR until something like this happens. Which isn't common. I've had all kinds of makes and models where something like this wouldn't have surprised me. But for my 200 Series to just grenade itself...yes it's nightmarish. QDR is exactly why...
Bummer. It sounds like you have a good shop there willing to do the work, so I'd quote #1 and #2 if they are willing, and make your choice there. I think you'll get buyers at $10-15k for a complete truck with a blown motor, but if you're going...
Overland Cruisers performed another borescope. Heavy scoring on walls of cylinder 7. Coolant also observed on cylinder 7 piston. Further investigation in cylinder 8 confirmed a dropped valve and that number 8 piston is cracked with a valve stuck...
sure, it’s got 4 wheels and an engine which makes it a car but it’s also a representation of all the memories it’s made possible for you and whoever has gone anywhere in it.
We got ours a 3 years ago and it was originally known as “daddy’s car”...
She’s on her way to Bozeman. Overland Cruisers is expecting her later this morning. She’ll be in good hands. Crazy…seeing her pull away on the flatbed I was freaking emotional. I know it’s just a vehicle. But it’s not.
Not to take anything away from our 200's...but mine is currently down with a bent valve (as my thread has been documenting). Nothing is bulletproof and my situation is very rare. It's mechanical and $hit can/will happen. I will admit I had a...
There is still a small chance that rod bearing isn’t happy but it isn’t worth dropping the upper pan and pulling the piston to find out for sure. After all this happened at low engine output.
I’d say the filter state is great news..
Doesn't look like metal. Usually when they go they go quick. There really isn't a chance for the carnage to get into the oil. If it's just a bent valve consider yourself lucky. What we saw was when the spring broke it dropped the valve down...
So it wasn’t split open. But I took it home so I could take a closer look at it. The master tech said it looks normal. He wasn’t alarmed. This looks like a normal filter to me. There is no metal debris or anything indicative of metal debris. My...
Arranging to get her transported up to Overland Cruisers in Bozeman.
Teton Toyota did cut the filter open. It was clean. This makes me happy. I’m heading up there this afternoon to see it for myself.
