Most of the kc crew got back by 1am. Few still on the road. Co dot apparently hit their lights to pull us over but thankfully @theSherpa pulled out behind us and they gave up the chase. My 45's on Black Bear. Great time now back to maintenance on...
The event was excellent as usual.
I had to bail early. Was planning on leaving Thursday morning but bumped it to Wednesday due to a sick wife and a pending client obligation.
2600 miles on the 60. No issues, and lots of fun.
I was able to get one of the bucket seats out of the truck to further evaluate the rust. I had to rip it out of the floor because the sliders are still totally frozen after soaking in PB blaster for a week.
I’m not repairing this cab. The rust is...
I'm still waiting on my buddy to upload all of the pictures and videos from Rubithon, but for now I'll just say that this truck performed flawlessly and was such a blast to drive! I think this is the perfect setup for the Rubicon; short...
Quick disconnect air chuck in the wheelwell worked out perfectly. The manifold on the ARB has a nearly straight shot to a factory hole in the bed support that is perfectly sized for a bulkhead fitting.
I stole the seats out of my landcruiser, they fit nicely in here. I also ordered a set of door cards on ebay. They came from Thailand and are really good! Someday I'll track down all of the missing trim pieces.
For the sliders, I made some frame plates out of 3/16" x 3" flat bar and each leg is gusseted. The welds are not quite as pretty as the ones some of you guys are making, but they are plenty strong. Its pretty challenging to get into some of the...
I added a voltmeter and charge ports to the dash. I also ran power to the bed to power my old 12v fridge. Loomed and insulated everything and tucked away as much of it as was reasonable. Tried to keep the wiring somewhat clean.
I got bored one...
Knowing that the group I was going to be wheeling with on the Rubicon always shows up late and that we were planing to go from Loon Lake to Rubicon Springs in one day, I decided to put some rock lights in. I ended up using 3 KC Cyclone lights...
Electrical stuff:
ARB compressor got mounted under the bed using a plate I had laser cut and 4 nutserts. I was worried about heat from the exhaust so I put some fiberglass backed heatsheilding that was leftover from my 1HZ turbo install on the...
Re-geared the rear diff to match the front I did previously. This one went a lot more smoothly now that I sorta knew what I was doing. Go ahead internet, tell me how I got the pattern wrong.
For those playing along at home.... be very...
Converted from manual to power steering using a stock power steering box and pump that I got from rockauto. The new engine I put in already had the pump bracket so that made swapping in the parts pretty easy. The pitman arm on the manual steering...
Along with the new shackles, I also drew up a set of bump stop extensions to use an extra set of big bumstops I've had sitting around for a few years. I've been wanting an excuse to try some tab and slot parts and these worked out perfectly. I...
Swapped in the shorter rear shackles I had made, then later decided to make some slightly shorter versions of the Skys Offroad boomerang shackles to better suit the springs I setup on this truck.
Also got the new driveshafts in from Tom Woods...
I was going to wait to update this thread until my buddy uploaded all the pictures from the Rubicon trip, but it been over a month now so I guess I'll get a head start.
Rear axle came out to get cleaned and freshened up. While it was out I...
