Awesome! Glad you are saving this one. I love the patina. Yours is so much farther along than mine. At least yours has an engine and transmission and can move under its own power. I’ll be following along. Maybe it will be motivation for me to...
It’s staying here on mud. Going to grab on the 27th deposit is made and then see what it is and start looking for parts. Just what I didn’t need.
Will need tail lights for sure as they are gone and not included. Will be a resto mod for sure fix...
I agree, if you are doing that work get an ls in there or a Toyota motor of choice. You might be able to find a complete set up with 4 speed or better and get a splitcase too which would save alot of work.
I think you'll need either a Downey or AA bellhousing. 4 speed fork and bearing hub/retainer. Sbc flywheel, disc, and low profile pp and Toyota throw out bearing. It's been a long time since I ran a stk 40 4 speed, so I could be off.
Maybe you will need new engine mounts if the conversion was done with the old Downey cradle mount or if the location of the engine is not as it should be
Engine will likely need to be moved if it’s not far enough from the firewall. Drive shafts will need to be lengthened and shortened.
As stated, custom bel housing, clutch, fork, 2F throw out bearing, etc.
I’d sell it as is unless you are...
Thanks so much guys! I appreciate all the help! Looks like I got a lot to think about!
There was an adapter in classifieds I was thinking about but only one piece of a pretty big puzzle. I’ve always been more of a purist and this truck has just...
Got a ‘72 40 that I bought years ago and po put a Chevy 305 mated to the stock 3 speed and transfer case. I have a 4 speed sitting in the shop. Assuming I’ll need a specific Chevy to 4 speed adapter, different flywheel, different clutch, clutch...
Last time I checked Jim C could get the pistons.
Doesn’t cruiser outfit have a lot of the other stuff?
Mosely I thought only did mostly the later flat top pistons and not the domed.
Thanks for the info. I’m working my way through this thread. I know my way around a ford 6.7 and 7.3 and the Isuzu over cab trucks. And don’t laugh at me my only Toyota diesel I own is a 2H. I like the 2uz in my ‘01 Lexus but long to put one of...
I own a 1980 HJ45. I imported it from Honduras. My build is in the 45 section and it might be helpful for you to look through some builds there to get some ideas. I replaced the H with a 2H. I would highly recommend proceeding with caution and...
I expect it won’t bother you too much when in the rear view mirror you see the kids smiling in the back as you drive down the road.
Much of life is counting the costs. Sometimes we have to tell ourselves to shut up. Or, at least I do!
I think it’s different if you’ve never had a resto, bc then you’re partially driven by curiosity: to see if you can actually do it. I did it once, with the swb. Would I do it again? No. It’s way more enjoyable to me to have a vehicle that I can...
I also struggle with everything OEM to an extent on the LV. Mine is so far gone. No floors, no engine, or transmission, or steering column. My struggle in my mind is with the floor and trying to make every single rib in the floor perfect...
