Seems like there is quite a bit of snow (and ice?) forecast for the next couple of days.

Thought I'd start a thread here as a clearinghouse for anybody who may be interested in going on Saturday 1/26. I'll likely go myself if I don't do it tomorrow already.

Seems like it would be great fun to play in the snow at Hungry Valley. You could also head out to Dry Canyon a bit West of there and have fun in big boulders.

Keep in mind that Miller etc will be closed. Call to check the status of Hungry Valley, 5 etc. Would be good if there is at least one winch (I have one) and some chains around.

For newbies: there is a neat practice area at HV, and many easy trails. So you can pick your poison.

(Sorry, don't mean this to be competing with the Cleghorn run, but for some of us on the West / North side it's much closer, and also different type of wheeling / area I think.)

Sounds like fun actually.. but already pulled the trigger with a buddy to go closer to home on the 26th. I'll be running up the backside of Lake Arrowhead for a day run in the snow. Have fun and be safe out there Eric.

Oh yeah, take pics!

In fact, a lot of snow. Be careful there. I wish I could come but am stuck at home. Yeah, take pics!

Yo, Hat! You gonna go play in the snow this weekend? I'm sure you could teach us some tricks...

Just saw on the news they closed the grapevine at Tejon pass.
:p

And hatman, sent you a PM

I did hear that the jam was starting 2 or 3 miles south of Gorman. I wonder if one could have still accessed Hungry Valley from the south side?

I 'was' headed north Saturday to take my daughter back to college via the grapevine. As of 12:53 this afternoon, Caltrans is still reporting the grapevine closed from Castaic to the LA/Kern county line. We'll be heading up north tomorrow via the 101 instead, unless the grapevine is open w/o escort tomorrow.

mmm.... 33 is closed also from what I read and heard... That one goes up to 5000 ft and is curvy up there with dropoffs.

Damn, I bet there is close to a foot of snow around Dry Canyon.... How fun! But gotta find a way to get there... And no chains...

Hat, where are ya? do something...! :)

Eric,

You under water yet? 4.25" of rain in Santa Barbara yesterday?

There some more snow coming down right now. the Grapevine is closed.

You can get off at the Quail Lake off-ramp or at the Smokey Bear Road off-ramp, turn left and when you get the dirt road, turn right and you can get to the McDonald's in Gorman.

This is right along side the 5 isn't it? Years ago I've gone this way after finding the entrance at smokey bear road was closed.

yes, but are they letting people go all the way up there? I read that 5 was closed from Castaic, whatever that means.

The S. entrance to HV is quite a bit further south than Gorman and that's at 3000 ft so should not be snow there probably?
