Gonna try to find a way through Milk Ranch to Crown King. This is a 'holy grail' type thing Thanatoz has been chewing on for years- he keeps finding ways to do it on a map, but when we get there it doesn't exist. I'm not sure of the route we're taking this time, but we're gonna meet at the Chevron at Carefree Highway and the I-17 at 9 AM. Probably. If you want to go, post up- if no one posts, we may just fly right by the Chevron. This is an exploratory run, but will probably see at least 3.5-rated (of 5) action, or may be boring as heck. There will definitely be lots of brush.

Howdy! BTDT. Milk Ranch is one of my favorite runs. I know the trails you are talking about. The old topos show one leading from MR to the fire lookout just south of Crown King, I think it is Horse Thief Basin. Unfortunately, it is now closed. Much of it is single track now, and it runs thru a Wilderness area now, so no motorized vehicles anymore, anyway. I busted my front axle up on the "worst turn" on the Bradshaw Mtn Loop that runs north from the nice big corral down closer to Tip Top. Nice views of Black Canyon City from there. John

this still on?

Yeppers.

Actually, as I type this I'm feeling somewhat ill. Check the thread before you go anywhere tomorrow.

sound good

I should be fine, ibuprofen is my friend right now. Post up if you're going.

Alrighty then, no responses- we won't be waiting at the Chevron.

Sorry ended up getting up really late this morning and not getting out the door till 10am so we ended up hitting table mesa rd to cave creek. Great day to be out.

It was a great day, no doubt about it.

We had previously run to Milk Ranch and tried to find the trail from there to Crown King with no success- we had the map, we knew where it was supposed to be, but it wasn't there. So today we went to Crown King and tried to go at it from the other side. We got to something called Jim's Creek where the trail was supposed to be, but again it wasn't there. Well, not anymore. We could see where it used to be. We're going to ask the Forest Service what the rules/laws are pertaining to 'lost' trails and see if it would be possible to open it again. If so it would be a major affair- probably at least a 2 day deal. First day we'd have to walk it, and make sure it's possible to clear, and the next day would entail clearing the brush. dead logs, and small trees out. It's right at 2.5 miles long.

It was a fantastic day, snow on the ground, clean air, beautiful views. We found a couple of other interesting trails, one that looks to be somewhat difficult and challenging- a serious downhill run and then across a long valley, and then probably back up the same way. It's a great area. We even got to do another rescue- a 2wd Dodge fullsize that couldn't climb up the icy and snowy Senator Highway hills. Fun was had. :D
