I have an engine light on and I am getting a 28, 83, 84, 85, when I do the test on the ebd1 port.

28 (3) No 2 Oxygen Sensor Signal ON ON No 2 Oxygen Sensor/ Heater Or Circuit,
ECM

83 Transmission Control Module ON N/A ESA1 Circuit
Communication
N/A ESA2 Circuit

cant find what 84 or 85 means but the transmission is not acting right so I am guessing they may have more to do with the transmission.

anyways, if you guys know what might fix the first two and or know what the last two codes mean then that would sure help.

What year is your rig?

I'm guessing a connector completely out, ground missing, dead transmission ecu, blown fuse maybe?

'94 FSM says this:

81-83-84-85.webp

Again from '94 - first check behind the driver's side kick panel:

TCM.webp

Ok, so look at the connection below the lower intake manifold that goes back to the tranny, just above the starter. There are a few. Anyhow if any of this has coolant dripping on it from the PHH or the 90 hose above just before the heater valve, it will give you all of these codes, I have even melted this area in the past with a Safty netural switch going bad. The other thing that Dan has posted in the past, is the early 93 computers I believe can give that set of codes with nothing really wrong, except that one needs a new computer. That is if I remember this right. But since you have not posted what year you have, got to guess as many things as one can. But the codes suggest either a 93 or 94(since the 91 and 92 have not electronic tranny and the OBD11 codes are different, 95-97)

sorry for not listing the year. it is a 93. thanks for all the input, and I will ck all this out this weekend. transmission does not seem like it is going into over drive and even with the od button in the on postion, the light on the dash for od intermittently comes on faintly and goes off. and it jumps putting it in drive or reverse. I bought the tranny filter and gasket and plan on draining and replacing it asap. other than that the engine runs amazing for a 287k mile truck. uses about a quart every 3k miles according to the po

You should update your profile so that information about your rig is in the signature.

I know on many car forums people do that just to show off, but here it's so that we can actually figure out how to help you.

But i too had assumed 93/94 based on information available.
