Anybody converted or got cable-lockers for their electric locking diffs? Like it or hate it?

I managed to get locking diffs on a full-floater axle for my white HZJ-80. In the spirit of minimizing electricals on it (as opposed to the black UZJ-100 which is just dripping with electronics), I want this cable lockers instead of spending more for the complete electrical circuit to run it.
 
sounds like an auto vs a manual shifting transmission theory. IMHO only problem I see with cable is you may have to rock the truck forward and backword to engage and disengage the locker(s). I am saying this from my personal experience with OX locker but once your engaged, I guess then you are home free. Same goes for disengaged mode. But then again OX locker has a fork shifter whereas this particular locker is going to use existing e-locker mechanism so this may not be an issue :confused:. Bottom line is: if it operates as smooth as the e-locker or better, why not going for it OR why would you go for it? :D
 
yes, there is at least one fellow out here who is using the cables IIRC..

LandToy80 (Kurt) has posted pics of his Downey cable locker on the rear. He used the cable locker because his rear electric mechanism got damaged during a brain fart. :D

Mounting requires some minor bracket fabrication as I recall. The pics have probably been lost due to forum changes over the years. He did the cable locker mod about 3 years ago if you want to search for those posts.

This is the broken actuator and how to temp fix the locker with a nut and bolt so it wont flop back and forth.

There was no bracket fab but had to have the steel shaft remade in stainless steel due to rust issues.
Put the boot on and filled it with grease so the shaft wouldn't get filled with mud, ice etc.
No problems after the boot.

I'm a locker new but I'm hoping I can work it out. Going to pick up an appropriate sized boot before I start pulling things apart.

My kit looks a bit different then that. The cable itself is seriously beefy and the lever is different.

Any advice to impart?

I got the same kit for the front and rear locker setup that I'm doing on my 40. I haven't put a bootie on mine yet, but that's a pretty good idea:hhmm:

I just covered mine in grease:meh:

my problem is that I'm a locker noob so when the directions refer to such-and-scu parts I have no idea what they are talking abot. Hopefully it will be clear once I get in there.

Need to get a boot and the sealants and locktite and will hopefully do it this week.

not a real big problem Dave, just open up your FSM to the SA section and find the exploded view of the diff. Everything is labeled.
 
The kit does have some different parts. They must be some sort of "upgrade".
Not sure what the circled parts.
The bracket to the left looks longer too.

No "T" handle??? What am I suppose to hit my knee with then:confused:

What is used in its place? It that metal thingy a lever instead?
Is it like the lockers on a "real" off-roader ie: Haflinger
