Hi All,

thought I would do a quick writeup to show what I got done on my 80 this weekend. I purchased the george's led's from him for the dome lights, and what a nice product they are! I also purchased the door led's from superbrightleds.com

I wanted to also add some light to the rear lift up hatch. I found some cool little lights at the above website and bolted them onto the rear plastic hatch cover, I wanted them to work the same as an OEM light, meaning I wanted them to follow the same switch function as the rear dome light. I accomplished this by tapping into the dome light at the positive and negative terminals of the actual dome light, routing the wires under the headliner and through the rubber boot thing that connects the body to the lift gate. I had to cut the boot thing in order to get the wire through, but a little tape afterwards sealed it all up. One tech tip for getting your wires through the tailgate side area, pull the existing harness out and tape up your wires to it and THEN push it all through, the stock harness has an existing plastic rod that helps greatly in fishing the wires back through, I also found it helpful to remove the two bolts on the lift gate strut to clear the inner path. Once I got the dome wired, I wired up all the lights on the panel, sautered them together and put a 5 amp inline fuse, some quick connects and I was done.

here are the rear hatch lights: Super Bright LEDs - Car Accents

Overall I am very happy with the light output and the project, I am stoked that everything worked as if it were OEM from the factory.

Nice, I would love to do this as well. Good write up, thanks.

Super Cool!

I like how you tapped in at the positive and negative terminals. I hate cutting into the factory wiring.

well, I looked for something to tap into in the rear hatch but the only + I could find was a constant to the rear latch, I figured out that the rear latch was a ground essentially that caused the circuit to the dome to be completed when it was opened and the dome was in the "door" setting. So, the only way I could think of recreating the effect of the dome switch was to actually tap into where the existing bulb gets it's signals from. There may be a better, easier way to do it, I am no genius, so if anyone has a better way please post up so we may all learn from it.

nice work

Sweet looking lights.. I keep writing down all the mods I intend to do to my rig when I get back to the states and the list is getting really long. It will take so many 12 packs to finish them all.
Thanks ih8mudders

nice job

Looks good, well done.
