I am trying to find a set of replacement axles for my 45's Dana/Toy hybrid rear FF axle.

Can someone with spare FZJ80 axles or who happen to have theirs out for maintenance measure:

- shaft diameter
- length from inside end to the flat mount surface (both axles)
- spline count
- spline length

I see your thread has gone a couple of days with no response. Sorry about that. Unfortunately, I can't help with your questions other than to say that I am pretty sure this same question was asked and answered a few months ago. Try searching the 80-section and see what you come up with. If you cannot find it then post back in this thread and I will try to search for you. I'm pretty good at finding information in the 80-Section if it is buried in here somewhere.

Thanks for the help. I guess the important one is shaft diameter since I can cut one down if needed.

Only thing I've found so far in searches-

non elocker spline length - just under 2"
elocker spline length - 4-1/4"


Beowulf, do you remember the context from a previous post?
 
Spline lengths sound correct, but that is only on the short side of the axle. The long side is approx 2" of spline on either locked or unlocked. I would imagine that the dia is the same as a 40 axle, but there is no taper to them. I say this because you can swap 3rds and they will work... You have my number, if I space it, call me and remind me!
 
RH, non-lock.

Length, inside of flange to end of splines: ~28 15/16
Spline length: ~1 15/16
Diameter at sealing surface: ~35mm
Spline count: 30

In the case of the FF 80 series rear axle there are 3 part numbers. Left and right side numbers are different and the RH has a lock and non-lock version.
In addition, there have been multiple supercessions on all three axles and the diameter of the shaft where the seal rides was increased from 35 to 36 mm. It is important to know what you have in there as the newer shaft requires a different oil seal.
The smaller shaft was the one used in production so if the shafts are original to the vehicle one would use the smaller seal. If the shafts are replacements, one needs to know what was used to obtain the proper seal.

The short-side axle in Bill's post would be for a factory locked diff. Note the longer splines.
 
Just a followup thanks for all the info!

The short side numbers are very close to mine- enough to remeasure.

Will be nice to get the FJ45 back on the road.
