BJ74 Clutch Booster Repair

For all of those individuals who have to replace their clutch booster that is located on the inside of the firewall.

I figured out a way to pull the booster out fairly easily.

Remove the four 12mm bolts holding the steering column to the firewall.

Remove the two 17mm bolts holding the steering column to the dash.

This allows you enough room to remove the booster without removing the clutch pedal and steering column

I'm going to order my new clutch booster when I get paid from my last gig!!!
This weekend its caster shims, front sway bar bushes and new shocks all round!!!!

Great info!! I have been kinda putting that job on the back burner for a while on my 71 (booster has not failed completely yet).

Hey Mojo,

Do you know for a fact if they have them? I'm pretty sure they only sell the clutch master that bolts to the booster. Not the booster itself. I might be wrong tho. Actually I hope I'm wrong cause these boosters are hard to find. I might give them a call tomorrow. A rebuild is probably the best option. Most clutch and brake shops can do it. Just means you can't drive the cruiser for a few days. They make em by the bucket load in china but you usually have to buy in bulk. I don't need a hundred of them tho, just one. I got onto a place i china that will sell me one. I'm gonna buy one tomorrow off them. When I get it I'll post details if its any good.

Just messaged 4x4 World. They have clutch booster #31440 60100 which I think will fit a BJ74. Although the BJ74 # is 31440 60070. The price was.......wait for it........$1160 AUD. This for a OEM clutch booster.

Thats out of my price range......

P.S. I just sent of transferred money to China for the clutch booster #31440-60100.
Hopefully it will arrive before the weekend. Fingers xed that the part will fit and everything will be sweet.

WOW If I would have known that.... I would have sold you my booster for 1159.99 and kept my old booster in the truck. Good luck with the install... How much was the booster from China?

Booster from China was $10 USD for booster and $60 USD for shipping. $70 USD/$87.50 AUD. The company that makes the booster is a big company and the manager said he would send me a booster as a one off. They usually only do orders of 200 or more. I think the booster is so cheap because it comes straight from the manufacturing plant and it is an aftermarket/non original (OEM) item.

We'll see if it is any good. I don't like throwing money away but I think it is worth the gamble.
