I have the tank out and was hoping to address that mess of fuel lines back there. I no longer am running the charcoal canister (no room, ok and I forgot it in the swap) so I need to do something different with the vent etc. Can I cut out maybe 6 of the 9 fuel lines hanging out around the gas tank and run one to the pump, one returning and a vent somewhere?

Thanks
Chris

THe unsmogged 60 and 70 series outside of north america have 3 lines into the tank.
1 for fuel supply to the carb
1 for fuel return
1 for for venting which goes to the charcoal canister. I think the 62 series have an expansion tank/valve in the rear 1/4 panel, maybe you could use one of them.

There maybe a 4th line from the filler tube to the tank

You could figure out which ones were vent lines tie them all together as 1 and run it up front to the air cleaner before the filter, BUT the reason Toyota uses a purge valve among other things, is to keep pressurized vapor in check. I would hate to see a factory air cleaner full of vapors and have a significant enough backfire to ignite. You would be missing a air cleaner and most possibly a truck.
Now if you wanted to vent to atmosphere, you could, but you will probably always be able to smell it. I though I'd try this in 87 whe I did my first TPI conversion in a Cruiser, I removed everything and was in the same position as you are now. I ended up getting a charcoal canister and putting it back to stock.

Expansion tank\valve... I wonder if the axle breather expansions would work? How much pressure is too much in the gas tank? Where could I source this... and how do other vehicles over come the pressure?

I don't want to smell it... and I don't want to do anything unsafe, right now it vents to the engine compartment via the hose that previously went to the charcoal canister and has for the last year/6K miles...

thanks

Why not just find some space for the charcaol canister like waggoneer says.
Its the simplest and cheapest way.
As a precaution I would place it the same height as before and also replace the hose pipe that vents into the frame rail

How other vehicles overcome fuel expansion and fumes is kind of dependant on the fuel pump pressure, height and distance of the tank in relation to the motor and who knows what else.
But basically they are all trying to do the same thing

Or go diesel;)
