Hello Folks,
My driver's side shock mount has sheared off from where it's mounted to the frame beside the engine bay! I guess I can allow that after 19 years of up and down.

My OME shock is not happy however and needs a new top mount bracket. Any bright ideas on a secure and cheap way to remount? FYI I'm not a welder. If you can give me a link, etc please email mattdogparaguay@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Gamarra

I think that happen on mine before I got it and it was rewelded. I think welding is the way to go. I would not think it would cost much to weld at a local shop. Maybe measure the other side and make sure it is welded at the right place. You want a good support for the shock so it can do its job and dampen things.

my rear was rusted out completely whenI got it. I had some guys who fab race cars fix it up for me. It was like 60.00. Find a welder...

thanks for the input

Thanks guys for the ideas - found a Cruiser friend who's gonna help me take a look at it tomorrow.

sheared shock mount - fixed, thanks Tom

Thanks to friend Tom, the shock mount is now re-welded and working fine. Moral of the story: don't run (even in the city) without bumpstops. I never got around to extending mine after I switched to OME in '99 and was actually running without them in the front. Read between the lines: no time for adventures lately. Apparently the large speedbumps around my neighborhood take their toll on bumpstop-less axles, particularly the driver's side, so the mount just sheared off due to stress when the shock was fully compressed sans bumpstop. Here's a few pics.
