I am rebuilding the carb on my 87 fj60. The manual says that the two small venturi should be different; one should be chrome in color and the other other should be brass in color, just like the main jets. Mine are the same color (grey) and both have a "1" cast into them (dont know if that is pertinent). I can tell which one was the primary becuase it has been blackened more than the secondary over the years. As a result, I know which one to put where. However, I am a little concerned that I may not have the correct venturi
in there. Can anybody confirm that the venturi are or are not supposed to be different colors?

Also, the rebuild kit i got did not include the seals that sit on top of the venturi and seal against the air horn. Mine are dried out. Were these included in the kits others use? Where did you get it?

Thanks

bump?

It's been a while since I had mine apart but I think the slow jets follow the same scheme as the main jets - ie the main is smaller than the secondary. The difference is subtle but if you look through them, one should be slightly smaller. As for the venturis... Both of mine are the same color too, other than the soot on the primary. I'm not sure how to tell them apart.

The carb that came on my '85 had both venturies that appeared to be the same. I marked them when I took them out, just in case. I don't remember if my toyota kit came with the gaskets, although you can purchase them separate from the dealer, part number 21659-38110

I've never noticed a different color to the venturi. And I have never seen a carb that had jets of different materials from the factory. Either both brass or both steel.

Mark...

Interesting. Everything I have read says that the primary jets should be different. The slow jets are also different sizes but not differenet colors.

I have to say that the toyota FSMs are among the worst factory service manuals I have ever read in terms of completeness. There are whole parts that arent even referenced in there.

Anyway, thanks for all the info guys. 2mbb, how did you find the part # for those seals?

In passing I have noticed cases where someone took the time to polish the ventures to a chrome lookn' state.....

Ha, If thats the case I wish the PO had been as meticulous about putting the manifolds together right...

Main Jets: The factory chromed the secondary main jet to differentiate it from the plain brass primary jet. The chrome is eaten off by years of exposure to ethyl alcohol (in the gasoline), leaving a blackened finish on the secondary main.
Forget about the finish. On the 81-87 carb, the sec jet is usually 200, primary is usually 147-150.

Boosters: The primary booster has a larger air jet and smaller discharge nozzle. The number cast on the booster is only a mold number, doesn't mean anything.

Some carb kits come w/ the HAC o-rings. None of them come w/ o-rings that are the quality of the Toyota parts. If yours are cracked and dried out, replace them w/ the toyota part.

I assume booster is another word for venturi? I measured both the venturis with calipers and the ID and OD of the outer ring is the same. Which part of the assy is the air jet and discharge nozzle? I guess the odds that I have somthing other than what i should have in there are getting smaller and smaller...

Does anyone know the part # for the boot that goes on the slow cut valve?

The boot is not sold separately. The p/n for the slow cut valve is 21346-61140. MSRP is $135--ouch.

you sure can buy a lot of lithium grease for $135. 2mbb, where are you getting the p/n and price information from?
