Hey everyone,

'02 LC with drivers side window stuck in the down position. I'm out of town for work and the wife called me a bit freaked out as rain was in the forecast (her car). We are new to the area and have not yet found a good local repair shop, so I sent her to the dealership. Diagnosis--bad motor and regulator. Fix--replace with new one for $790. Oh, hell no. I asked them if they could just set the window in the up position and I'd look into getting it fixed when I got back in town. They said sure and wife was on her way.

I did a search and found some info about bad motors, bad switches and proper lube of tracks, but nothing on doing a replacement. I've found OEM and aftermarket motor/reg units on line. My question is if I get the part, how difficult a repair is this and what should I know before getting into it? I haven't had the door panel off since replacing my speakers, but it would initially seem pretty straight forward--basically install and plug in the new piece since the motor and reg is one unit. Possibly some sort of reset too, i'm guessing.

This forum has been a wealth of info for me, much thanks. Looking forward to your comments on this.--Thanks, P

I'd rate it  to :banana: the first time.

FSM covers what's called "pinch admustment" which controls when the window stops its upward motion when using the auto-up switch function.

Wear thin gloves once you start working in side the door...some sharp sheet metal in there.

I did it recently and it was the first time I had ever done it on any car. There are some videos on YouTube that, while not specific to a 100, showed to me how easy it is to do.

My motor was okay and I used a VDO regulator I scored on Amazon for $18 on sale. I've seen factory regulators for around $80 on the discount part sites. Imagine that the with-motor option will cost a bit (lot?) more. I did read that Dorman regulators are a little lacking in quality although I have no first-hand experience.

Good luck (although you won't need it!).

Awesome guys, thanks alot for the help. I'm ordering the part on line this week. I'm also ordering the two volume repair manual to have on hand for other repairs like this--thanks joecruiser for the pdf excerpt. Tremendous support on this site, as always. I'll let you know how it turns out when I'm done. Later, P

OK, I'm now back in town and finally taking on this job. Just have a question about the "service hole" mentioned in the service manual. After taking the interior door panel off and disconnecting all of the electrical connections, I got to removing the plastic sheet covering the access to the window regulator and motor. This is where I have my question--there is a sticky tar-like substance that holds the plastic to the door interior. The plastic tears when I try and remove it to access the regulator. If I remove it, I won't be able to replace it as it'll be torn to crap. Is there replacement plastic and a tar sealant for when I'm finished with the job? This may sound like a total noob question and I found nothing on my search. It appears to be simple plastic tarp that I could cut to fit the hole after I'm done, but what type of sealant should I use to fix it in place? Also is there a "plastic door cover" I could order? is this actually a part? Any help appreciated.

You can heat the black glue with a hair dryer/heat gun and use a utility knife and slice the glue as you pull it away. When you're ready to re-apply it, just heat it again and it will stick like brand new.

Awesome, thanks. Will give it a try.

I believe Shane/AAtlas1x used construction moisture/vapor wrap on his. Easily found at Home Depot. If it wasn't him then it was someone else who do this after removing door panels.

My DS window stopped working this morning too. But the DS door switch sill works for all the other windows. Would this indicate that it's probably a bad motor or regulator?

I suspect it's an aftermarket motor because it sounded like it was struggling since I bought the truck, the vapor barrier has been removed and reinstalled once, and the glass doesn't match the other windows. Anyone know the part numbers for the motor and can save me some time looking it up?

I have the same issue with DS Front window. It is stuck in the fully up position and the switch will not work to let it go down/up. How do I get the window down in order to replace the motor if it is not working? Thanks!

Same issue here. All window work properly except drivers. Sounds like motor is clicking but nobody's home. Next step is to remove motor to lubricate it if possible.

Anyone with ideas?

SOLVED.....for now at least.

I took off door panel. Unplugged wire connector to window motor. Used small 12 volt battery and separate wiring to connect battery to the proper prongs on motor connector. One wire from battery positive to green wire prong and other wire from battery negative to other two up and down prongs. It properly moved window up and down. Then I plugged connectors back up and the window switches began properly moving window up and down.
