Purchased '00 LC used 11/2009...timing belt, kit and water pump were replaced by owner just prior to sale. Manifold gaskets were also replaced.
Fast forward to now, and I had to redo the gaskets and replace the manifolds and went OEM (gaskets didn't do anything for noise due to cracked manifolds). My LC still sounds a bit like a muffled diesel when idling...and now I'm losing a bit of coolant (1 cup/week). Took it in for a pressure test and low and behold, the other work that was done just prior to my purchase is also sh
t. A Duralast (I'm now guessing refurb'd) water pump that is 6 months old is leaking, and I'm going to have the independent shop I trust replace the tensioner, idler pulley, and timing belt b/c the other work and parts are too suspect. My question - OEM, or is there something better for the $$$ to use? OEM is Aisin I believe...is GMB better? Thanks in advance. Anyone else have the experience that non-OEM parts cause a diesel-like noise from the interior of the engine?
This is all incredibly frustrating...but at least I don't own a GM truck w/ a "lifetime" 40K diff! (Friend has had 2 replaced on new truck:whoops: This situation is my own stupidity.
