I've read about the noisy telescopic steering wheel and my '02 has that issue. What concerns me is that I can wiggle my steering wheel up and down (not in and out, be easy) about 1/4 inch after it gets into its driving position. SHould this concern me? How can I fix this?

My LS400 is rock solid. I can't push it up and down after it gets into driving position. Does yours move up and down if you push on it?

You can have the dealer disable the auto-retract feature... the manual retract will still work.

I am not concerned about the retract. It's the fact I can push up on the steering wheel itself and move it 1/4" up and down. It's like it is loose. I can push up on the wooden part of the steering wheel and move the wheel. It has nothing to do with the retract in and out. Starting to get a little erotic, heh?

The whole steering wheel assembly is held onto the splined steering shaft by a nut, maybe yours is loose somehow. I wouldn't mess with it myself, it's behind the air bag and requires it's removal.

I would think if the nuts loose, the wheel would move in and out, not up and down??

goin on a limb here, but maybe the gear on the motor is loose or worn?

You understand. It is not and "in and out" issue. It is an "up and dwon."
