Took about 45 minutes yesterday to clean the trottle body and mass air flow sensor. I was suprised by the improvement. Idle was up a couple hundred RMP and much smoother. Throttle response was better.

I imagine idle will drop back down when the computer adjust to the post cleaning condition.

If you do this, a wooden handled parts cleaning brush and a tooth brush help in cleaning the throttle body. I used B-12 Chemtool throttle body cleaner. Man, that stuff is powerful. I used CRC MAF cleaner. Both worked very well.

I am going to do plugs next weekend. Anything else you recommend as far as tune up? I've done the 90K service. The LX has 120K miles on the clock. I'll do all the fluids again at 145K miles.

Cleaning the MAF sensor is easy. It is in line between the air filter and the throttle body. Remove the top of the air filter box; unplug the MAF sensor wires and detach the bellows. Over some rags or a trashcan, simply spray MAF sensor cleaner onto the wires per the instructions on the can. Make sure you get a dedicated MAF sensor cleaner. My was black and dull before I cleaned it and then silver and shining when done. DO NOT touch or scrub the MAF sensor. Make sure all of the solvent is dry before you hook up the wires.

I need to do mine too...where did u get the sensor clear...any particular brand or they r all the same?

Sorry about the lack of pics. It was about 95 degrees and I was sweating out about a dozen beers from a canoe trip the day beforel all while trying to get the job done before the wife came back form a weekend with the kids. Last thing on my mind was making a documentary. Next time.

Any thoughts on what else to do other than plugs?

Starter or starter contacts especially if you travel into parts unknown ;). Generally they start misbehaving between 100-120K...

How did you clean the throttle body? Thought I'd ask since it was part of the thread title? Thanks.

There is another post on here somewhere with pics and directions on cleaning throttle body. It is really pretty easy. It is on the front side of the V-8 "V". You simply remove the air intake hose, which requires you unscrew a few hose clamps, remove a couple of bolts and some vacuum hoses (takes about 10 minutes) and then gently clean the throttle body and flapper with solvent and a brush.
