I am finally ready to sell my '78 FJ40, I just don't have the time and would like it to go to a good home, or a good cause
Not sure about the milage, it says 16384 miles on the clock and judging by the condition i would think 216384.
I purchased it about four years ago from a friend leaving town, unfortunately when i went to get it I was really excited and should have pulled the plugs and let some oil sit in the cylinders before i started it up. Well i didn't and the #5 cylinder probably has a busted ring. If you pour oil in the cylinder and start it up it has compression for a few revolutions but drops rapidly.
I have kept it registered and insured since purchase and planned on doing an engine swap. So far i haven't found the time or a garage and would like it to be loved by someone who will really enjoy it.
The good:
OME 2.5" lift
nice best top soft top about 7 years old - one small rip
has soft doors but no handles and cant see out of the plastic windows(foggy)
4 Solid 33" BFG AT's - spare 33 on a FJ60 rim
seats are in decent shape - especially the 2 rear jump seats
runs, drives, stops, just loses power after it warms up due to blow by i guess
Power steering works well, not sure of the make but you could probably tell from the pics if you know what to look for.
Full roll cage with 4 point harness for driver and passanger
The bad:
running of five cylinders
hubs need a rebuild, no 4wd but transfer case spins the front drive shaft
lots of rust
It will drive around town for about half an hour before it gets really stumbly, lets go for a ride
Thanks for looking, John
PM is fine but can also be reached at 860-388-7907 or email at johnayer@hotmail.com
