I’m looking for a welder upgrade for the home shop. Currently, I have a Lincoln 100 Weldpak. It’s ok for what it is, but I need more. At work I have access to a Millermatic 2xx (I forget which one). I’m not a trained welder, just a monkey that occasionally stacks a couple dimes( Miller). The welds are strong, but not anything you’d pay for.

Today the an ad came across my screen for the new YesWelder DP200. I have to admit it’s tempting. $500 for a 120/240v multiprocess (mig, lift tig & stick) welder that does dual pulse. The entry point is tempting for my home shop. For heavy lifting I’d probably still use the miller at work, but I’d like more than what I have at home. The dual pulse seems like a good crutch for a hack like me.

I see the brand all over YouTube and they have good things to say. I imagine most are paid for their input, so I don’t want to go by that metric. Has anyone had any time on this brand? Longevity? Quality? Customer service?

All the non-commercial welders are made in China, except one: the USAWeld units (they're made in Italy). Even MIller and Lincoln are made in China. Yes, they are cheap and yes you get what you pay for.

As to longevity, YesWELD has been in business since 2017. What does that tell you?

I have a 20 year old USAWeld 150 MIG and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

You need to really assess your need for TIG before you buy into the "I have a welder that will weld every process known to man" craze. HTP America (USAWeld) also has an all-in-one, they have to, it's a competition business. If you want an unbiased opinion of it, look here.

In terms of multiprocess, I’m good enough with mig, that I’ll likely use that function most of the time. The tig, well it’d be nice to try it out and play with it. I’ve never done tig and hear that it’s slow, so it’s more that I’ll get to try it out and it seems to have training wheels.

I didn’t have time to watch the whole video, but it had some good content. The htp looks great, but well out of my price range. At least the quick google search I did. If there’s a more affordable unit I’d be happy to look at it.

Like I said, any heavy welding will be handled at work with the big miller.

The Revolution is the multiprocess unit, and the most expensive they offer. The single process MIG units are on their webpage. The link is above.

I was tempted to buy an "affordable" multi process welder many years ago and the welders at the mine I worked at and my welding instructor talked me out of it. So I can't say how it will work out for you. It may be a decent machine.

Good reviews are one thing but product support is also important so I'd make sure they back it up and replacement parts are available.

I also ended up getting HTP welders from USA Weld in 2011. They sell quality machines and have excellent customer service. Excellent machines and trouble free so far.

Good luck with your decision.
