So I've been web surfing around trying to learn about vehicle recovery in order to but a basic recovery kit together now that I'm adding a winch. Has anyone used one of these? X=Lock

Basically its a way to shorted your winch line in order to keep the line wraps on the winch drum at a minimum in order to maximize the winch pulling power. Here's a YouTube Demo. Maybe not a mist have but seems like it might be useful in certain situations.

I used one to shorten a winch line during a training, and I was really impressed with how easy it was. One of the people there mentioned using it to belay a vehicle down a really sketch descent. I think it's a good thing to add to the recovery kit, but like anything it's important to figure out how to use it and get comfortable with it before actually using it in the field.

I own a couple of them. They are great tools and well made. As Matt stated above it has multiple uses and doesn’t take up much real estate.

Safe Xtract makes top notch gear. One thing that is super handy is their recover app. It walks you step by step through resistance calcs and gear configurations etc.

Yes I’ve got one.

I got it because I don’t have an electric winch...I’ve got a more power puller and an extra length of synthetic winch cable...the x lock allows me to have an infinitely adjustable length to the winch when using the extension.
