WTB: 4runner for economy vehicle

My wife and I are looking for a economy vehicle. We are looking to spend less than $8,000.

She wants a car I would love to have a 4 cylinder 1st gen 4runner, that isn't all hacked up. So anything along those lines. If it is a truck/SUV it needs to be a Toyota. I won't be so picky when it comes to cars.

I would love to do a some kind of trade with her truck which is a 91 4runner SR5 with a 3.0 V6 and auto tranny.

Her truck is in really good shape minus a rusted corner of the rear bumper and a few other things you might expect on a 16 year old truck.

-Great tires
-new head gaskets less than 15,000 miles old
-newly replaced tranny with less that 20,000 miles since put in the truck.
-4wd works great

overall its a great truck just need something that gets better MPG

Do 4banger 4Runners get good mileage? I thought they sucked.

my 85 4cyl got great mileage.........and it wasn't just me being a kid thinking that b/c I just got off the phone and dad agreed that it got really good mileage.

This is probably getting into chat, but what is "great" mileage? I have a 2000 Taco 4WD 4cyl that's getting right around 15mpg. Is that great? I'm guessing a 1st gen 4R would be worse...

chat: have you seen the condition of chat lately this is definatly closer to tech compared to that.....my 4runner that was an 85 got well over 20.

good question that.........what is great mileage? Right now I am driving a 1985 fj60 that is getting 17 MPG after you correct for the tire size....and her 3.0 4runner gets something between 15-18.

I would like to add something to this thread........after she told me how much she was looking to spend I mentioned she could get a good 80 series here on MUD for around that. She said, "Now what good would it be to get one of those if I am wanting good gas mileage?" She had a point and let it go..............she gets home and starts looking here and finds a few and I think if we can find one of those that we can make a deal on she might be interested in an 80 or possibly a NICE 62

So long story short we are also looking at an 80 or a 62.

There goes the mileage ;) You're mileage figures seem awfully...good.

yeah I know they seem good...........I did the math and not just figured in my head.........I followed what someone told me in the 60 section about how to figure tire size into everything so if you really want to get technical I get 16.9 MPG in my 60
