You kids have any leads on a source for used tires? I need decent replacements for my Expedition. The 'stock' size is 255/70/16 but anything bigger is better.

There are a few places on Cleveland Ave in the hood that sell used tires. They can take of and put on the new/used tires for you.

Also some places on Central ave, near the junkyards on McKinley Ave.

so I bought 4 Goodyear Wrangler 285/75/16's off of Craigslist - what's the best way to get these mounted on my rims for cheap?
Most small shops will do this for you as will many tire stores. I've been using the local Walmart with pretty decent success but I'm not sure if they will mount used tires (I buy new tires from Tirerack and have Walmart install them). Call around and ask...

i was hoping more for the "my Cousin Larry has a mounter and balancer set up in his garage-he'd do it for beer" sort of scenario 
yes-i've been calling around and gotten costs of about 15 bucks per wheel which aint too bad - I bought the tires super cheap so that'd actually be more than what I paid for them. THere doesn't really seem to be any other way though. I need to get them on there though.

But my old skool machine would scar up your fancy aluminum rims and you'll spend more in gas to get here than paying someone local to do it right.

hmm yeah the trek might make it cost prohibitive - - - - plus my tires are BALD - 60 bucks to get them thrown on will be fine. I am just being cheap. Speaking of cheap, here's how broke i am: A guy at the shop does fabrication work in partnership with a buddy of his. His buddy is the tire manager at a local Firestone. That guy said he would give me 4 265/75/16 Bridgestone Dueler A/T's, mounted and balanced for $350 bucks out the door. I had to turn him down! so I bought these half-used Wrangler MT-R's for 40 bucks and am complaining about paying to mount them.

you probably wouldn't get very far! i've got some sort of electrical issue going on now where it won't start unless I jiggle the negative battery cable...it's pretty weird
