Getting set up to learn smithing.

Looking for tools and most importantly - anvils.

Thanks

Very cool, that is becoming a lost art. Have you been in touch with anyone about it?
Kwantlen University has a ferrier program and the instructor there is very much involved in the local blacksmith club. Want me to see if I can dig up some contact info?

Matt I'd be grateful for any information you want to send. Thanks for the link also Jeff.

I'm making my own forge - when I built my shop I had two stub outs created from the gas line so that I can use natural gas. Not as hot as propane but a blower solves that - kind of like a turbo but not compressed.

Thanks Mat,

I saw this ad and as luck has it family is here which is nice. Most anvils are priced by the pound and in the ad above he's got a German or Swedish anvil and regular american. The German may fetch upwards of $800.00.

Would love to go to this

Hey, thats a classified site I haven't heard of. Thanks for that!

Jeff, thanks for that - now I need to find a automatic hammer too. Frik!

So now I have three anvils. A flat "plate" 3 inches thick and one foot square with pritchel hole weighs about 112 lbs, a 151 pound Peter Wright that was forged in the late 1800's (date based on its known design flaws) that has seen some good use (I will sell this after I find a bigger one), and a 44 lb unit designed for intricate light work like knife finishing and arty scroll stuff.

I'm now looking for tongs, flatters, cross piens, dollies etc. and will trade these rims for your old blacksmith tools: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/set-of-four-factory-15s-no-hubcap-clips.825491/#post-9494750

John, this site might give you a few ideas. His bookmarks "link" has a whole section on forging to check out.
