Anyone been to Wood Buffalo National Park in Alberta Canada?
Would really like to go. Looks like quite a drive up though.

was there in july of 1995. spent two days in the area. we were on a 4 month road trip to the artic ocean and points north.
lots of woods type buffalo that are smaller than plains buffalo. saw lots of wolves that followed the herds. lots of bugs that hoovered over and on the buffalo.
way worth the trip you just need lots of time. make plans to stay in yellow knife for a few days while your up there.

Cool.
See any aurora? One of the main reasons I'd like to go.
Roads all fine up there?
Thanks,

Guess spring and fall would be the better time to go. Roads in the winter would be more...frosty.
Thanks,

Wood Bison are significantly bigger than Plains Bison. They are truly gigantic. They are the largest terrestrial mammals in North America. Was driving in a truck and had a big bull on the road walking toward me. It seemed like I was looking eye to eye with it and the head is only about half way up the body.

If you travel in the spring or fall, check to make sure the ferries are open. The crossings are closed when the ice bridge is too thin to drive across but too thick for the ferries to get through.
