You need to drain the pool down below the lowest outlet on the side of the pool, usually about 3'. Pull the filter and pool sweep pumps and put inside. Open the drain cap on the bottom of the filter. Pull the valve assembly off the front of the filter. Blow out the lines with an air compressor (you might need to make up an adapter to screw into the ports in the pool and attach the compressor) You can sometimes use a wet dry vac to suck the water from the lines. Cap both end of all lines, you might need expanding rubber test plugs for some of these. You should put a block of wood or sealed empty milk bottle in the bottom of each skimer to keep any ice from expanding and breaking your skimer. You might want to have a pool service do this and watch so you can do it next time.
