The work has began, roll bar is out and a friend at work is bending up one like it out of tube to match the metal tech front cage.(any body need a stock FJ40 roll bar) I should have it back this weekend or next. Any tips from anyone that has put in a profile cage? I started to take off he diamond plate and the running boards but chickened out, I'm afraid I may be replaceing the metal all the way up to the door openings.
I'm still reading up on getting the shifter linkage to work with the SM420 so that is on the list as a possible item before April.
John Beasley has figured out the mount for the power steering pump mount aroun our front engine mounting plate (the old Downey engine plate). So I need to get out to his house and look at that so I can get this scout power steering out of the cabinet and on to the 40.
Then maybe a little lift?? Who knows.

Metaltech cage fitment...

Mark,
I know that you normally run with your soft half doors or none at all, but if you are ever considering putting on hard doors, you will want to put a set on when installing the front profile bar. It took some teaking here and there to get the bars situated just right for me. Not hard at all, but you need to consider all the posibilities. Pay attention to where the bar meets the floorpan and that the floorpan crossbrace won't be in the way of your securing bolts. As Norm Abrams says "Measure twice, cut once"! Good luck.

Thanks for the support guys, its progressing slowly. Semms like everytime I get the cruiser in the garage I'm needed in ten other places. But hey slow progress is better than no progress.

AJ That sounds cool to me.

Clint thanks, I had planned on test fitting the hard top before the final welding but hadn't thought about the doors. I have the original old style doors and a set off of the '77 parts truck so I can check both types for clearence issues. The center bar should be done this week.

The work has slowed due to a higher build at work and I still haven't got my remade stock rollbar back. The tubing we got is a little thicker than the Metal Tech stuff (it was all they had in 2" that wasn't a special order), and Brads tubing bender would not bend it. He is taking it to his buddies shop this week so hopefully I'll have it soon. So I've been making the winch mount.

A little info for everyone if you have a 40 and the windshield has not been folded down for a while, besure to check the top of the cowl for rust. Mine was starting to rust in a few places but I cought it in time.
