Found out that my windshield will not pass inspection as its too foggy (au windshield). Anyone got a decent one they want to sell? 1979 40 series.

The inner part of the windshield, whatever it is, is hazzy/foggy and not 100% clear. No idea why. Its especially bad near the bottom part of the windshield. It like having frost on your windshield you can't scrape. There is also a crack in the glass so that is not helping my cause, so its time to seek a replacement. Might just be better off getting a new one but they are pricey!

I have heard on tech, that cause' it is flat glass, most any window glass place will cut a piece and install it for ya. They say it is $100-150.

Search tech for the lowdown.

I know what you mean by the fog. Mine is foggy around the edges.

I see now, I have a lower corner like that, pretty out of the way though. Wondered what it was from.

I think I paid $130 for each of my flat glass peices (windshield and 2 side windows) they should be able to turn it around in half a day. I have never tried them but here them on the radio during sox games. they say they will come to your car. no affiliation 1-800 54 giant

OK, based on what you guys said, thanks for the input by the way, I'm visiting a glass place in the next couple of days. Looks like the best and cheapest way to go. The other way might be to try to get OEM from toyota. Looking in the tech area the price others talk of is much more reasonable for the toyota windshield. I got quoted 880.00 installed from one of those "come to your car" places....after I got done laughing, I hung up.

I will do just about anything when it comes to cars/motors/boats/cycles/etc, but me and glass don't mix. I must have done something to piss off the glass gods in a former life....

 I'm laughing cause I polish glass for a livin...

Just an update...Ended up ordering it from toyota. Went to 4 different auto glass places in the area. Only one would cut it and he was more expensive than the OEM piece from toyota. Having it done Monday.

How much do they want for it?
I'm going to have to replace mine next month also.

Clear listed at $170 and tint was just under $200, (gasket, if you need it, was $41 and is still available through toyota). I know I could have gone to one of the dealers that gives us a discount but after spending gas to get there it was no different. They had tint in boston but no clear anywhere close. I am kind of under a time line as we are moving the next 2 weeks and have to have the troopie driveable by next week...

I was going to say your local dealer...I just got one of the older windshields for my '64, and paid it $80...it actually says FJ25 on the sticker.

How much they want to install it? I have to do mine, but I hear that you need two, maybe three pairs of hands to work properly, so I may eventually bring mine in as well...anyone try doing theirs alone?

update....couple pics of the new frame and windshield :) Oh and of course, following a few others lead with the "rattlecan" paint :hillbilly:

Oh sorry there FJ, late reply. I didn't have the dealership do the install as Falmouth Toyota doesn't have its own body shop. Went to a windshield place, Acme in Plymouth. Charged me an hour's labor ...75.00 for me worth every penny as I would have been ordering another windshield if I had done it.....Spud, you gotta put in the good word with the glass gods for me, they still hate me...

FYI, if you live in Mass and pay the comprehensive insruance (the lower part of the insurance form) yuo get glass coverage. Go to Giant/JN PHillips/etc and hvae them replace it.....

I've done it twice already. First time was for the restoration of the windshield. I asked if I took the windshield out and it broke, will insurance cover it. I got a yes and the windshield was replaced for no cost to me.
Just FYI.
