I posted this question on the main 40 tech thread but I waned to post here as well to get some local help. Thanks.

ok all I need a little help. I am replacing the windshield frame in my 79 FJ40. It was involved in a rollover from the PO. I am replacing with a windhield frame from a pre-75 cruiser. It has the wipers mounted on top but I do not know the exact year.

Do the hinges match up for the swap or will I need different ones. I still have the ones from the 79 but they do not seem to line up. They did not look to take too much of the damage during the roll over but I could be wrong.

I'm sure the wiring will be a challenge as well but that's another story. Thanks in advance for the help.

AFAIK they are the same, but i have not really looked to close. The ones on my 3/75 look the same as my 9/64.

I did get one response saying that the pre-75 were different, but I really don't know. They look the same using the calibrated eye, but I did not actually measure them. Just thought I would ask the better educated. I am still very new to all of this as I'm sure you can tell.

ok windshield frame is on and was able to get the glass was installed this week. Also got the wipers wired and working. Looks like I am going to need another set of windhsield hinges though. They are a bit tweeked and need replaced. I also have quite a bit of hesitation in the engine that I need to work out. I figure I'll start with the carb and check the vacuum lines. Any other suggestions? All in all it is coming together and hopefully will get tags this week.

Check timing / carb / vacuum leak / distributor advance or retard / normal tune up items also. I know i am missing things but will get you started anyway.

good deal. thanks for the advice.

did not have a lot of time to look into it last night. I did get my other hood mounted ( was damaged in a rollover from the PO), but I did find a vacuun line that had come off. I think I am going to to buy some new lines and just go ahead and replace them.

I've noticed in the last few days, that it is only doing this when it's hot. Going to flush the radiator and put in some new coolant and change the thermostat too.
