Okay folks, in the next month or so, I should be getting my new bumpers from Rondog of Vigilante Offroad for my 87’ FJ60. (A big thumbs-up to Ron by the way!) At any rate, I was planning to replace the wire cable winchline on my old trusty Ramsey REP8000 with synthetic winchline. Does anyone have any recommendations for synthetic winchlines? I’ve noted that the synthetic line manufacturers I’ve seen on-line have different line diameters and lengths. What diameter and length should I get to replace my current cable winchline? Finally, if it’s not too expensive, would it be worthwhile for me to take my winch to the local electrical shop so they could give the internals a once over once I have it out, or in the alternative, what sort of preventive maintenance could I perform myself on the winch once it’s out? Does anyone know of a Ramsey rebuild kit of some sort? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

(Don't laugh, it has served me well!:grinpimp:)

agreed, winchline.com

if your stock drum holds 125' of 5/16" cable, then I'd purchased 3/8" diameter rope in an 80' length AND pick up a 50' 3/8" extension rope as well....reason is, most of your winching will be 'short distance' and in order to get to the maximum rated power layers of the winch, you need most of the rope pulled out....makes more sense to keep a shorter rope on the drum so you have less to pull and having the extension for those rare long pulls.

Both of my rigs are setup this way, as is the Trail Team truck I drive now.
