Ok I know everyone has different opinions and not looking to make this a 700 pg thread... Thinking maybe a sticky for newer members that are in the process of getting a winch.

What items do you recommend that you should have in ur rig to help while useing your winch....

-gloves
-tree saver
-wieghts for the winch line

I know you have other items ? What are they?

Shackles, Receiver inserts, solid attachment points / tow hooks

As I have only read in 4X4 rags, what winch rating is right for your use. I've heard/read that you need 1 1/2 times the weight of your rig. Is this right? Sounds good enough, and also read something about mounting the winch flat(vert) or upright (horz). Which one is the strongest-or-most dependable way?

Dustin and I have one of those led fabric covered x-ray pads that are no longer usable for x-rays for putting over the winch cable when winching in case the wire rope snaps. About a foot squared hangs on both side of the rope and it weighs a few pounds. Works great.

So I'll add something more substantial than a hoodie to put on the line when winching.
