I posted this in 40 and 55 series tech without much luck and thought someone here may be able to help
I'm wanting to know if later style hub caps will fit over the hub and axle on a full floating rear diff. Reason i ask is i want to fit wheels like the one shown to my 40series with 60series diffs.

Just trying to find out if the caps will fit over the hub before i go to the expense of importing a set .
Wanting to do something a bit different to the split rims or spoke rims that are the norm in my part of the world, and widened rims with caps would look great i reckon

Thanx

I know Jsaltlic had the those style on his old rig. What you need to do is get two sets of front. They will have the cut out for the locking hubs and fit fine over the full floater. The ones pictured will not fit.

Yes. The rear solid hub cap does fit over the FF rear hub. I have a set on my truck. They fit on tight with no problems.

A friend is also running a set on his troopy.

The troopie looks a bit like mine did once

Na mate, is standard length. Although i did think about it, but then decided carrying space was more important than departure angle on a work/tow/play vehicle .

edit: a pic of the back for you

Great question. I was under the impression that you needed two sets of front as well. Nice to learn otherwise.

While checking out ramboandlucy's rig for sale, I noticed they have what appears to be front hubcaps on the rear.

Uted,

Where are you getting those rims made up? I might be interested in five 15 x 8" ones while you are at it- maybe we can save a quid or two by doing ten. Gives me an excuse to drive down to Tassie next time. :D You're in Launnie, no? I'm in New York City right now for a month. I'd love to get some hubcaps while I'm here, but I don't want to ship rims all the way down there.

Kevin,

When you look at the rear hubcaps, they do seem to go up another 1/4" or so than the front ones. Maybe that is why they fit. I kind of think it looks better with the front hubcap on the rear though. I put domed nuts from the front hubs on my rear axle studs (because it keeps water from getting into the bolt threads), so I would have to run front hub caps.

Cheers,

Josh

G'day mate. I'm a bit over an hrs drive north of launnie.
I will be doing the rims myself with the help of a mate. I don't actually have any rims myself at the moment. I have gotten onto a set interstate but the bloke who has them is not sure weather he is going to part with them yet. So the search goes on. I may just end up getting a set of caps anyway, when i order the other bits i need and putting them aside until i find some rims

Cheers Steve

G'day Steve,

Let me know how it goes- I'd love to see your rig once you get the hub caps on it. My Wife and I will be in Hobart in August, but won't make it that far North on that trip. Maybe next time! I'd love to see your rig.

Cheers,

Josh

Sorry to dig up old thread, anyone who can confirm if closed hubcaps fit on a FF rear axle? im reading conflicting info on this.

Looking at fitting city racers split rim style 16 inch rims, front open hubcaps and closed hubcap style on the rear FF axle.
