Grench, I'm headed up (kinda) your way next week. I'll be in Ames, which is still a couple hours. But just in case you get really bored![]()
Thank you all the same, but I'm chasing a tech issue right now that has given me a dent in my forehead. Hopefully my autoenginuity software/hardware will arrive by then and I'll be diagnosing whatever the issue is. https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=142213 I hate intermittent problems with no code.
Anyway, if nothing else, I might just have to make a trip to Flat Nasty this year.
Wichita is a long drive just to say hi. There is a hotel down there that my wife and I stayed at about 7 years ago that she talks about every now and then. We were on our way back from the, "Big Hole in the Ground" tour. I think it was a Best Western with a waterfall/rock feature in the middle of a swimming pool in an atrium? Does it still exist?
The big hole in the ground tour... We did it in 8 days starting and ending in Lincoln. And yes, we took our time and saw the sights.
- Colorado National Monument - Big hole in the ground. Elk meat burritos. Mmmm...
- Grand Canyon - REAL big hole in the ground. The most expensive McD's in the US.
- Painted Desert - Horizontal hole in the ground. The Taco Bell in the middle of nowhere was interesting.
- Winslow Meteor Crator - Circular hole in the ground. Yes, the song lyrics are painted on signs throughout town.
- White Sands Missile Range - Glass hole in the ground. No place to stop, just keep driving to minimize the radiation exposure.
- Roswell - Alien hole in the ground. Good tacos too if you ask the lady running the museum where to go for them.
- Carlsbad Caverns - Real deep hole in the ground. Lunch 5,300' under ground.
