You have multiple options open to you right now. Do it right the first time, do it 3/4 of the way or fix only what is broken and continue saving funds. I've done it all 3 ways before. A little rust isn't a deal breaker unless it's eating bearings. You can always just fix exactly the broken things, clean the rest up, throw in an extra magnet to catch anything you missed and drive on for awhile. Is it perfect or preferred? No. But sometimes we have to live with what we have and what we need falls out of the sky in the way of the Mud classifieds or clearance deals.
I’m going all in. I’m looking at doing this only 1 time. I plan on having the cruiser for life.
My current list:
4.88 Nitro gear sets (I’m already 3x locked)
Install kits w/solid spacer
Nitro axles front and rear
New drive flanges
Rebuild birfs
OD tcase gear
FZJ brakes F&R (ordered)
New oil catch can (in hand)
Huge Derale trans cooler (in hand)
New Gturbo grunter (ordered)
Replace all silicone intercooler couplers (in hand)
Custom 3” turbo back exhaust (in hand)
Reseal injectors (kit in hand)
Retime injection pump (tools ordered)
OEM Timing belt and water pump
Compression test and replace glow plugs (ordered)



Replace everything else that needs it

Factory 4.30 gears. Just in case you were still on the fence.
