Yes you can mount it like the oem electric denso winch… see here … original pic from @treerootCO

On the 8274's the cable comes off the bottom of the drum. Warn made a bracket to mount on top of the frame rail. You can see the fairlead mounts to the winches lower mounting bolts.

Perfect picture and color. ;-)

This pic shows the winch mount I have so I don’t think mine will work.

That mount is for a low profile planetary type winch like a M8000. The winch mounts on the flat plate and the fairlead uses the 2 holes on the frt vertical part.

A winch type similar to this .

Edited to try and not show what it's attached to. Unsuccessfully

That is what I thought. Might just try to find a deal on an M8000, 9000, etc.

I WANT a warn winch on my 40...

What else might slot into this bumper? Is this the 8274 setup with plate and lower cable opening in bumper?

I’m thinking about getting a winch for the 40 and of course the 8274 pulls up. My winch plate bolts on top of the frame rails and the tow hooks bolt it down. Would the 8274 fit on that or would it need to be lower so the cable comes out of the front of the bumper?
@sleepycruiser
You might be able to bolt an 8274 to that.
My 40 had a similar winch mounting plate on it when I got it.

I've since switched to the bolt on bracket from @powthief19

You can have my 8274 above frame horn mount plate.if yours doesn't work.

It's just a trip hazard in my garage anyway

I’m no logger or certified chainsaw operator, but what the hell is going on in the background? That’s looks really sketchy with the chain in the fall line to the chainsaw…

Thread hijack over.

Just picked up an 8274 this week. I have a dead short somewhere and I believe it is bc the brushes are touching the armature. The washer that goes there is made out of some sort of plastic or fiber and it was in a few pieces when I took the motor plate off. I’ve made a few from plastic, but I assume the Warn washer is heat resistant or something. Does anyone know where I can get that washer? I’ve looked and apparently I don’t know what it is called.

Going to try the version I made today to at least see if that is the issue…but want the Warn part.

Warn still makes and sells 8274 parts, but they're not good at selling motor parts like brushes and etc.

If you can't find the parts you need, it might be a good excuse to replace the motor with a 9.5XP motor or even better their industrial winch motor, both of which will bolt right up. Even the 9.5XP motor will make your 8274 an unbelievable powerhouse - more than twice the hp of the stock motor.
