Though not a club run it still merits a report. This was largely a mountain bike ride for which I provided sag, or support. But mainly it was an opportunity for me to do the White Rim which I had not done since 2004 and then on a mountain bike. We gathered at the Island in the Sky visitors center Friday AM and headed down the Schafer switchbacks about noon. Lunch was at Musselman Arch then on to the Airport campground. We had clear skies that night and an amazing chance to view the stars. Minimum temp was 75 so sleeping comfortably was not in the cards. But the next days high was 102, so 75 seemed pleasant in retrospect. Saturday we progressed on to Murphy's Hogback for camp. The long and steep climb to camp earned the mountain bikers their pasta meal. Woke up Sunday AM to overcast skies and a few sprinkles. At lunch several in the group explored the slot canyon close by. A check of the weather radio told us most of Utah was under a flash flood watch with potential heavy rails. This threat combined with seeing the 2' deep ruts in Potato Bottoms from recent storms convinced us it was time to call the trip and head to high ground and pavement. I believe we timed it right as the roads were just starting to get greasy when we hit the blacktop.
