The switch on the rear hatch of my 2000 4Runner has gone bad. I was going to replace it, but I can't find the damn thing. Is it part of the latch? Anybody done this before???
Oh Yeah, it's the switch that tells the dome light to come on when the door is open.

I had the same problem with my latch/switch; the doom light wouldn't come on and the vehicle locking system didn't recognize the hatch was open. I think the latch and switch are the same unit. I read recently a write up on another forum where a guy disasembled the latch, cleaned it, lubed it with Triflow, and reassmbled and it worked perfectly. I tried it and it worked well for me too.

Thanks, I'll pull the panel and inspect it now that I know where it is. Mine is doing exactly what your's was. Hopefully I can clean it up and it be an easy (and cheap!) fix. Eric
