I am in Birmingham, and need to have the seal around the oil pump replaced in my 80.... Anybody have a recommendation one way or the other?

I used Christian Brothers in pelham for the same job. I can't remember the price but it wasn't bad.

hmm, did you show them the "mud" way? Cause the hourly rate mechanic book shows the long way.

there's the knee jerk in this job... If you know the shortcut as described on here then the job is quite simple... But most mechanics will not know the shortcut and follow the quidelines of how to "properly" do it and may cause ALOT of labor work...

I say this: After doing this job on two rigs... it's extremely easy, but IS time consuming if you're not a wrench...

BTW.... how do you know it's this seal? Alot of folks have replaced this seal only to realize it was the o-ring on the distributor dripping onto this area making it look like this seal... just a thought to check first if you haven't... That is truly an easy job and $2 o-ring...

X2 on the dist o-ring. Just make sure you mark it before you pull it......unlike what I did.

yep... it wasn't on one of mines... but on a friends... he ripped it out without marking it. Oh well, it only added about an hour to the job.
