hi new here came over from the 80 sec.like to get a fjc,and wanted to know if it was made in the us. or came from japan to be a true toyota, made by people who put care into making great vehicles,or made in us by time clock workers ,

so mister uaw worker

what do ya build here in the usa that lasts as long as the toyota line of vehicles and you sure have not been making toyota's for the last 33 years.and you know them people put there heart and sole into making vehicles, not time clock workers .cheap steel,i have alwise got us made, and do ya know where that stuff is now, thats right its in the trash /junkyard,and my toyota made over there with our steel with the bad taken out and pour pure steel is in the driveway with over 300,000 stock miles unrebuilt still running strong ,so show me a us made clock worker vehicle still on the road, aside from a police package,so i will buy a fj because of where it was made ,all others i will pass on.:flipoff2:

I agree Toyota builds a great product that is why I passed on the Big Three products. I build Caterpillar and know that the products I built in 77 are still digging today  My FJC has been very dependable and my 60 has 218 and still kicking :D

fj info

so is this a vehicle i will be happy with, with out searching has it had any recalls ,and what is the best model to buy.

That is a very challenging question. It depends a great deal on what you plan to do with the vehicle. Don't know of any recalls, a handful of TSB's are issued which I've not had any issue with.

There are a couple "issues" with the early builds (basically, pre-07), one being questionable rear R&P gears, the other inner fender bulging/ripping, although some have suffered from this in later builds. However, the issue with the fenders has hit some with stock vehicles and others with lifted rigs, some who wheel and some who don't, no apparent circumstance has been able to be linked to the where and why of the problem. The problem has been in the low hundreds, if that and has been addressed in later build dates.

Look down the thread list for the "80 vs FJC" thread and you might see some insight as to owners feedback. I've enjoyed mine and used it to its fullest. I drove it from NC to CA to do Rubithon '08, hit SoCal, AZ, Moab and CO on the way home. Had both daughters and dog with me, wife joined us in AZ for the rest of the trip.

Not sure what you mean by models, I guess packages offered as inTRD, Trail Team and Off-road. I bought a basic rig, with the "CQ" package and the rear locker then did my own upgrades for what I wanted. If you don't get the e-locker, you won't be able to add ATRAC down the road so I'd at least get that if you plan to off-road it at all. I don't see the value in the TRD, Trail Team or Off-road packages but to each their own.

If you want a kid mobile for running around town, its not the best, mostly due to the suicide doors for kids getting in/out of the back seat. And, its a bit of a cave back there. Mine don't mind since they are a bit older and can manage the doors by themselves. It does drive well on the roads even with a bit of modification like mine has.

I'd suggest finding someone local who has one and getting a test ride out of them. Good luck and hope this helps some...

Check out your VIN number. The first letter or number represents the build location.

If it starts with J it was a Japan build.
1,4,5, it USA
