Wheel studs snapped...

Ugh.....just wanted to check on my rear brakes since whenever I put it in reverse there is a screeching sound sometimes. So i started loosening the lug nuts on the cruiser and they seemed rather tight like way tighter than 76 ft/lbs. One went from getting loose to tighter either direction i turned the nut. Then I kept going because it was stuck and it just snapped off. Then I knew I had to get the wheel off and kept taking the rest off then another one snapped. So I don't know really what to do, I know I need to replace the wheel studs but I am not sure if autozone is ok. Or if I should order some ARB's but man this just makes me mad. Also do I need any specialty tools. I feel like my weekend of getting some R&R is going to be gone.

Oh the joys of tire shops using torque guns...

Pretty simple, I've had at least 4 break on my cruiser. I personally went with OEM studs and nuts. Just have to press the old ones off and the new ones on. You can probably get the old out with a dead blow and a punch, then I used an old lug nut to "press" (really pull from the other side) the new studs in with a he assistance of some washers.

Well unfortunately you cannot remove the hub easily like you can the front, so the studs need to be replaced on vehicle. Just remove the disk/drum and work around the parking break internals to change out the stud.

I've been through this a couple times as well. Use oem studs. To get the rotor off make sure parking brake is not engaged. There are 2 small threaded holes on the rotor hat. I pulled a bolt off the front of the cruiser near the radiator and used that. Just screw it in one side, then the other, back and forth and it makes getting the rotor off super simple.

Once rotor is off the studs can be banged out easily. I then put the stud through and put a big nut (not threaded onto stud) on the stud then slowly tightened using a lug nut. It will eventually seat.

Be sure to bake off the parking brake. Pulling off the hub without do so will destroy the parking brake mechanism. I found out the hard way. It's a fairly easy job. Drive out the old and set the new studs nuts bigger than the studs using the lug nuts.

always funny how your almost finished and then another curve ball. didn't realize that the lug nuts are very unique. so I guess I need to order those now.... I'm glad this happened at my house and didn't have to change a flat in the middle of no where and have all this happen.

Not sure where you are, but Costco carries our lugs.

Called costco they didn't have them. but I was able to get some grade 8nwashers thst were the same size as the normal lug nuts and use some other lug nuts to get it to fit correctly. I'll put the order in tonight for the correct lug nuts. any suggestions for brand or place to order them? I'll probably go amazon or summit.

Anyways, thanks everyone for the quick replies and help. I'd definitely be pissed all night if I hadn't gotten it fixed. Time for some beer....
