Well I wouldnt consider the ff axle and the trans anything I would even bother with changing even if the parts came for free. So no need to spend 3k for them!
I know you really like 60's (so do I) so I will skip the whole "fj60's are worthless turds etc..." line.
Rust free is hard to find around here. Knuckle rebuild is no big deal. (btw if the felts are leaking, as he says, then the inner seal is bad too). The oil on the clutch sounds like a pain in the ass. Faded paint can be expensive.
I think 3500 is maybe too much, but I wouldnt call you a retard for buying it.
For something to compare with, I would sell mine for the same money to a cruiser bro. Right at 200K miles. Professionally rebuilt motor and new clutch about 6,000 miles ago, spent most of its life in Texas, Utah and Louisiana, so minimal rust. The rust on mine (rear wheel wells only) is very very minor for a 60 and easily fixable. Mine might have a few more minor dents and needs paint as well. I believe my interior is nicer than that truck from what I can tell by the pics thanks to Tony. The only thing mine needs mechanically is a new choke cable. Has new Rancho 5K shocks. Has like new 31 inch ATs on stock rims with appropriate center caps. Needs a stereo. Runs out well.
Here is book value from NADA Guides.com in their classic vehicle section.
Where do they get these numbers? I know the last time I checked, high retail was about 10K. I am surprised it has jumped that much in a year or so. Geez. maybe I don't want to sell mine after all.
"Its the worst LC ever made, It does nothing well. It is too big to wheel, too miserable to DD as a wagon. Under powered, gas guzzler, rust bucket. If you want a cool vintage LC wagon, get a 45 troopy, 45lv, 55... If you want a cool vintage wheeler, get a 40 series. If you want a big nice wagon get an 80....But it is the most beautiful LC."
How did I do Gum?
While I agree with Gumby, I also just plain like the 60 series.
That all fits into how I would use it.
I love the look, my fav also!
Wouldn't wheel it.
Wouldn't DD it.
It would be a retarded sunny day vehicle.
My problem is that I already did the clearing house thing a couple years ago to get rid of extra s*** and now I'm fighting my temptation demons. I'm trying to stay on the wagon.
