ok guys,
thought i would get your opinion on this.
my 4runner has bald 31" doo-doo all terrains on it. Eventually,
I planned on upgrading to 32"s tops. and i had contemplated putting an elocker from a tacoma in the rear of my 4runner (pipe dream) as its almost a bolt in operation. but these plans were way down the line.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuutt,,
I found this guy parting out his 4runner on here.
He has a rear diff with the elcoker and 4.88s along with a front IFS third to match.
He is asking $750 for the front and rear 4.88 units and the elocker.
Emailed him and he said the rear was a junkyard tacoma find installed with new 4.88s by Slee offroad. bearings were replaced with the install. the front he bought already setup from another wheeler, and just dropped it in. so no history but claims he has had no problems with either set for at 15k miles.

so do you guys think its worth $ 750 for the hole shebang? i figure i get lower gears for the bigger tires i plan on getting and an elocker already setup and broken in for pretty cheap. considering one unit is over 1500 new. or is that still too high for used 4x4 parts?

what would you pay???

I would call Glenn and ask him as I have no fxxxing idea.... I paid that much for my 4.88 for my LX470 brand new for just the gears and install kit so sounds okay but I would think more like $500 myself but I have absolutely no reference point. Call Glenn...or Belmont will pipe up soon he has a wealth of useless knowledge and is always willing to share it... :) LOL No seriously though...I would ask one of the more experienced guys or call Glenn....LexTech would be my first avenue.

Yes.

New gears and install kit are $600
Install/setup is $850
Used Elocker is $400
Cable conversion is $100
Used front third is $200

So you have about $2200 worth of parts for $750.

I would offer him less to try to cover shipping, but don't be surprised if he doesn't move.

Jeremy

i thought it was a good deal too.
he said he had someone local to come look at the stuff, but if he didnt bite he would get in touch.

so i will definitely consider it.
will glenn be at the meeting today??

i could ask then.

come to think of it, what is he going to do with that 80 is wife fubared?
if he parts out, an OEM fj80 locker switch and computer would be pretty slick if i did this.
Then i would officially be like 1.2% land cruiser!!!

well,
i talked to the guy and we both decided it would be easier on him and safer to ship if i just got the whole rear axle and the ifs center section shipped on a pallet.

...so i did.
800 bucks plus 150 for shipping bought me a complete 87 4runner rear axle housing (drum to drum) modified to fit the tacoma third member with factory e-locker, with electric motor, geared to 4.88 (all work on rear was done by Slee offroad)

and the complete front center section with 4.88s and open diff. (done by him)

all assembled and broken in (approx 15k miles on the rebuilt setup) and ready to bolt in. add gear oil, and go!!

perdy sweet deal i think! locked and geared for less than 1k!!

pics later tonight!!

Awesome!!!!

Now all you have to do is, is to pay Glenn $3,000 to put it in.
