What tool is being used to lift the tire back onto the hub?

At my age and level of fitness I am resorting to using a shovel to lift my 35X12R17s back on to the hubs of my 40 series Land Cruiser with a 4" suspension lift. This method works good in the shop but have not tested it in the field.

Remounting onto the tire carrier I have not attempted yet. When I took them out of my RAM 3500 I was able to get a hold of them and take out of the bed easier then I had expected. But do struggle to remount onto the axle hubs without a shovel and block.

New tires and rims are a lot heaver then the tires I ran on the stock 15" rims.

I have a M1102 trailer with Hummer tires and wheels and it has been years since I wrestled one of those that had a leak and took to get it repaired. The 3 I have I plan to but them on a diet to reduce the 160 lbs they weigh by removing the run flats and replace with PVC rings.

I have the same problem as you. I'm a geezer and its difficult lifting a 35 inch x 12 inch tire and placing it over the three lugs of the carrier. I can't solve the lifting problem, but I made it easier to get it on the carrier once lifted. It's always been relatively easy to get a wheel on the front hub, so I made a part to simulate the front hub on the carrier. It's just a piece of 4" diameter pipe welded to a flat piece of steel, and the flat steel plate is drilled to mount over the lugs on the carrier. It's held in place by a tinnerman nut on one or two lugs. So, I just have to heft the tire up to the mount and it is pretty simple to place it onto the fake hub. Then I can rotate the wheel until it lines up with the lugs. I eventually modified it to include a bottle opener, since there was some extra real estate there. It all works pretty well.

Install a full floating rear axle. ;)

Mark...

I did. I think I got that covered when I converted a FJ60 rear axle to a full floater.

My problem is not that I can lift the tire and rim and move it where I want. But with the lift and being on the floor or ground I don't have the strength anymore to get it up on the hub. But a sleaver bar makes all the difference to get it up on the hub

I have replaced a tire off road on a F250 when I was in my 30s and then it was not much of a problem.

By the time I finish this build I will be about 70.

I was thinking about doing something like that.
I am not far enough along in my build to mount it yet because I have to get around the back of the truck and the tire would stick out to far.

I may see if I can get a wheel hub to attach to the tire carrier.

Looks like carrying shovel and a block is about the best to keep in the truck.

Sounds like you need to reach out to a shop and have them build you a custom hitch mounted carrier with a small atv winch mounted on top. It may sit a little father off the truck, but I think it could be designed to hide the winch behind tire and then a pulley to draw the line over. As I type this out you could even cut a slot in a square tube and have the wheel hub mounted on a piece of tube that slides in the channel. Winch line down the tube and have a “sliding tire carrier” of sorts. I don’t know. Start sketching and calling around.
