Ok Some of you know that i currently moved to reno from central pa. I do love SNOW however, there must be 2 types of snow. In pa when it snows, it snows. I grew up in las vegas never having driven in snow so when i moved there boy it sure was fun learning. :D no last night after having snowed 2 inches i decided to go out a pick up a movie for the wife to watch seeing how she works nights and had to stay up most of the night. now the problem is i couldnt get anywhere with the snow. Yes i do have 4x4 on the taco, and had to actually put it in low just to get back to the house. does ndot/reno use salt/sand/cinders on the roads here, or do they just hope that the main roads with thaw on there own. the wife has one of those stupid mazda rx8's so i will have to drive here to work and pick here up. which sucks because i will have to get up and wake up the 20 month old at 6:00 tomorrow morning so i can go get her. The taco as some of you know is so damn light in the ass ned that they just slide. Does home depot or lowe's sell sand bags out here so i can weigh down the ass end. I guess thats the end of my rants and questions. thanks guys for listening

Yes we do have 2 types of snow here. Powder and Sierra cement! Due to the geographical area that we have here it may from any direction. It may be dumping up on the hill and we won't get anything down here. It may snow down on the South side of town and we won't get any here in Spanish Springs or visa versa.
Generally speaking they only plow the major streets. And it usually melts the next day unless it is cold like it is going to be for the next few days.
Lowes and H/D do sell bags of sand but it is in paper packaging. Maybe you could put a tarp over them so the weather didn't deteriorate the packaging.
Oh yeah, the saying around these parts is if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it will change. As you probably seen today.

I seem to recall Home Depot having the plastic tube sand last year.

Like Mike said we rarely get snow that last on the street more than 48 hours.
