What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

What happened?

Looks to me like bits of rag were stuffed into PS-pump pipes to stop debris from falling in while work was being done on the engine. Then a decision was made to test run the engine without expecting the pump to suck the rag inside.

.... Sounds like a mistake I'd be likely to make too.

Your CSI skills are excellent. That is exactly what happened.

That air pump may not be destroyed, I'd disasemble it and inspect it for damage before scrapping it, they can be rebuilt and are expensive.

I took it apart and both vanes were broken. The rag was a good size the string that you see is misleading. It still is a good core.

If they are graphite vanes, which I am sure they are, you can make replacements from vanes out of welch or varian vacuum pumps. just measure the vanes and make sure that they ones you get are large enough to cut down.
Welch and Varian both sell parts for their pumps. I don't think Toyota sells just the vanes, but maybe a rebuild kit.

Pablo, the fuel filter unit is completely serviceable. Very helpful when you are having problems like I did (the filter was full from inlet to outlet with waste in 20 miles of driving). The fuel filter units and additional filters are also sold separately, which is awesome if you don't feel like cleaning a filter on the road, just slide a new one on to the threaded and bored rod and slide on and tighten the glass casing.

And yes, it can handle FI.

Something like this: OORacing - performance monkey bike, pit bike, madass, zoomer, dirt bike components - Fuel filter glass 6mm hose fitting (Powered by CubeCart)

But you can find them at O'Reilly's.

Thanks, I will check it out at O'Reilly's!

progress: removed all major rust, built a rear sill, which is in place, all body mounts lined up/bolted (with energy poly bushings), wire wheeled about 90% of the exterior, stayed away from gaskets, chrome, etc.etc., rebuilt the rochester that was on it, and she's purring like a kitten (if you ignore that there's no exhaust), pto is mounted, new inner fenders are built and waiting on the sill to be finished to mount. i like progress, but always wish more was done

3FE Install

Fabricated a bracket and installed the mini truck ps gear. Also got into sorting out the wiring harness.

Went oil leak hunting. Found that my front driveshaft output appears to be leaking (not surprised it needs a new bearing), a leak from the e-brake (it's due for a rebuild and is probably saturated) and some slight leaking from under the welded on skid/reinforcement plate on the oil pan (thankfully I have a spare).

Fixing the leaks is going to push my bumper build out, but the oil leaks are a priority, the bumper is a nicety.

Signed papers on a shop. Damn, the addiction has gotten more expensive!

It'll be nice to set up a real shop instead of working on her in the back alley. Dirty Sal might be a crack whore, but she deserves better than that, even if it is a Monkey Shop!
