What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Working on getting this 2H started for the first time since purchase and I put a new fuel line off the hand pump into a container full of diesel. Finally able to get the pressure I expected, and fuel shot out of the bleeder. Unfortunately, the pump is leaking fuel like a sieve so I'm going to order a new one based on this post (Validating browser… - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/bosch-primer-pump.235120/) and it looks like FCP euro carries it for fairly cheap too (Mercedes Diesel Primer Pump - Bosch 2447010038 - https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mercedes-diesel-primer-pump-2447010038#description).

Feels like I'm close to having it fire up.
 
What does that connection look like ? Was there a reason you used a hard line vs a rubber hose? Maybe it is a plastic line cant tell...
That's still the (usually) white nylon plastic line that's been going to the vac gauge for years, it's just getting old and dirty...

Is that wire next to the heater hose connection for a water temp gauge?
The thick black one is the Autometer temp sender, little bit of orange is the stock sender to the stock gauge

Did you use Ni Rod for the weld material?
I don't know what the Irwindale shop used but I probably used 6011. I worked in the dirt and then several years in sand and gravel, batch plants. I used a rosebud or scarfing tip - whatever was available for maximum torch heat - to pre heat the parts. Ni Rod was not available to us but probably a better choice.

I never welded any cast iron just mild steel and some stainless. I was Forman doing balance of plant work and one of my guys was working on a clinker grinder in the ash system and missed the internal bolts that held the cast iron bearing case on one end and was told to get a bigger hammer, he did. The plate for the bearings split almost corner to corner. One of the other Millwrights had experience welding cast iron and we asked the customer if they had any Nirod and they did and he did the preheat and welded the plate back together and the bearing races still fit. As far as I know that grinder was still operating until they tore down the power plant.

One winter a while ago, I was replacing a transfer case in one of my trucks. The jack stand placement made it hard to roll a creeper around where I needed it, so I just unrolled some used carpet I had between the jackstands and left it there until the job was done or the next spring, I don't remember which - but it was warm and comfy, and absorbed any spilled lube or cleaner. Felt like real luxury!

When I see someone who definitely knows his way around a Landcruiser working on the ground with cardboard and Everyman tools it gives me a little inspiration that maybe I’m not such a fool trying to tackle some of these FJ40 jobs with no lift, no special tools but lots of grit. Then again sometimes I just wipe off my bloody knuckles and take it to a pro.

I bought a service lift when I opened the shop, because it seemed like a good thing to do. But I never really got used to it. I’ve never had a problem working on the floor, and I’m still extremely flexible.😊

Walking an 80 box into a 40(not completed…). My phone camera is making the shaft look a lot closer to the pump than it is.

Looks great. I altered my fender for the box, instead of cutting an opening in my new oem fender. It was relatively simple and not overly difficult.

Looks great.

I’m really considering doing this when I go to 62 axles and 80 front suspension. While ditching the ole Saginaw steering.

I don’t love how the Saginaw drives. Although assist is zero problem.

As someone who drives their 40 a lot I wonder if it would drive better on an 80 box.
