Big thanks to @cruisermatt for making me this early (1967) replacement brake pedal for my LS swapped 40. The original brake pedal sat a good 3” above the gas pedal and too close because I had to shift it right to clear the 2” diameter steering column. My foot stuck under the brake pedal once trying to make a quick transition from gas to brake.

The new pedal sits about 1/8” from the column and maybe 1” above the gas pedal. The transition from gas to brake doesn’t require lifting my heel. I had to make a few mods because of the brake switch placement required for the 4L60e but other than that it pretty much bolted in.

Thanks again Matt.

Finally got around to adjusting the drag link to straighten the steering wheel.

Replaced the spare tire carrier bushings. Had to grind the hinge welds off to separate them enough to get the pins out. Was a process but now no more clunking spare tire after every bump. Also, the top and bottom set bushings we different diameters.

Also taught my oldest daughter how to drive a stick. We get back to the house and she turns the key forward and the starter cranked. I said, what are you doing, you turn the key back towards you. She responded, I've never had a car that required a key, she's 23. Thought for a moment and realized all the cars we've had since she turned 16 had push button starts.

Also removed a leaf from the front spring packs to level it after removing a leaf from the rear pack a while back. Rides much smoother now and sits about an inch lower. This was originally an OME Safari 4” lift. Removed the bottom, smallest leaf.

Made a new hood prop perch from an old salvaged bracket. Sits about 6” higher than using the hole in the top of the bib.

New shop pup to keep Cal company. Grandkids named him Storm. A neighbor found him abandoned and in a cardboard box on the side of the road about a month ago.

I like that prop rod position and mount…. Nice! Glad youre giving that puppy a home

Reupholstered seats are finally in!
I switched from a bench setup and long jump seats to buckets and short jump seats. I tried to keep everything as factory as possible. Re-did the seats, OEM roll bar re-done, powder coated the bar and seat frames, Overland Metric/JIS hardware. The seating position is now taller and MUCH better than the bench, IMO a major improvement. My interior makeover is almost complete, just have some odd and end hardware to correct.

Have a ‘78 Columbia cruiser planning on the same seat and roll bar updates. Where did you source the roll bar, front and back seats? How did you repair all the old long rear seat mounting holes? Thanks!

I sourced the roll bar, front seats, and rear jump seats all here on the Mud classifieds.

From memory, I believe the roll bar plates covered up the holes left by the long jump seats, so they weren't visible. I plugged with some rubber or plastic body grommets from Advanced Auto.

My wife did that also. Reached in through the window to turn the accessories off and turned the key the wrong way. Well I can now say that the 15BFT starts very easily and has plenty of torque as it fired right up and pushed the father in laws Engel fridge through the wall of the house and then sat there idling spinning the wheels on the concrete. I was impressed with the motor but not the wife.

I had a small Chevy I rented in Argentina with a small I4 diesel and I forgot that other countries don't require neutral switches and didn't put foot on the clutch.
Good thing there wasn't another car parked in front of me because it started chugging toward the wall in the parking garage.

I will have to remember my 40 never had a neutral switch once it is running.

Been quiet on here for a long while, got busy with life but did a massive project today. Decided to have the tub/panels professionally painted. I have been on a wait list for two years, when a spot opened up I decided to take it.

I’d love to paint it myself but I lack the climate controlled facilities and the PNW weather doesn’t cooperate. I’ll bring the rolling chassis back home to fit the drivetrain then reassemble after paint. Estimating 4 months. It’s a lot of work to do a bare metal full repaint. Going to be very involved in the seam sealing and properly coating all the cavities in the tub.

Two years almost to the month of body work to get to this point. Yes, I did tow this with a 4Runner and yes it was just a little sketchy.

After a 200, 100, and several 80s, I finally got a 40. Sept '73 factory soft top(?). Used as a hunting vehicle for the last 20+ years. Mostly complete aside from the obvious, and still has the aisin carb. Usual rear rust but still solid. Came with a similar era warn 8274 and factory steelies. Super excited to take this on for $1500.

🎼And they loaded up the truck and they moved to Beverly…🎶…Is that the chair for granny? Or maybe Aunt Edna? Vacation (1983)

Actually, great find… with cost of parts and pieces that fact that you got one that’s complete helps keep the re-build on target. It looks pretty darn good. Had to have made a heck of a hunting platform. Good luck!
