Test fit the rear sill cover I made. Waiting on the rear sill itself to show up. Discovered another glorious hole that needed to be filled on the tub corner. Cut a new drivers side floorboard and started stitching it in. I’ll finish the drivers side panels tomorrow. Inside kick panel will be fitted and bent and then I’ll put the outside kick panel onto that piece.

If you've ever bought "fuel" in Kenya......I remember a "Gas Station" outside of Mombasa consisting of a dozen or so plastic containers, an umbrella, homemade stool and a twelve-year-old kid smoking a Marlboro. 😬
 
OK, just so I can get a foot in the "1997" page door, here's my next project - 1977 FJ40:

It's a little tatty, but it is complete, with two exceptions: I have no starting handle or tool roll. Other than that, and some missing body material due to iron worms, it's all here.

Next up: body comes off, rust gets replaced with steel sheet, and this summer we're back on the road!

I had some stuff done, does that count?
I took my 40 to the legendary Georg (@orangefj45) at Valley Hybrids. They did all new suspension, knuckles, front brakes and other odds and ends. It rides much better and sits level. I would definitely recommend Valley Hybrids for any Land Cruiser work.

I second the shout out for Valley Hybrids! Georg walked me thru troubleshooting a blown tcase behind my 1HDT, built a new one for me with ammended gears, and shipped it quick! Real quality, super knowledgeable folks at a top notch shop.

Doing it without removing the window from the door, the window is completely in the way. Popping out the pins/clips with a flathead screwdriver was no problem, but I quickly realized what a beast it was gonna be getting the new ones back in. Installing the first felt run on the outside wasn't all that bad, but installing the inner one was absolute torture. HA!! If your clips don't go in on the first attempt, pray they don't fall inside the door along the window, or fly off into space somewhere. Took me a while to find the first one that flew about 8-10' from the truck. It's seriously not smart to attempt it without removing the door and taking the door apart to get the window out of the way. I'm surprised I didn't break the window trying to press the clips into the tiny holes. If anyone has a video of how this is to be executed properly, I'd love to see it.

Although I wasn’t planning to take any trucks in for a while, I’m trying to organize an invitation-only Landcruiser-only trip next month, something I haven’t done since before the warehouse fire in 2016. Like the TLCA, everyone who goes has to have a hardtop or rollbar. When I called @daveb. to tell him about it, he informed me that he had just finally got a factory ‘79 rollbar that he wanted to have retrofitted into his ‘72. So I sorta boxed myself into a corner and agreed to install it.

The installation involved the usual compromises based on the feet not matching the wheelwell ribs of the earlier tub. The clamps to hold the rear bars to the main hoop did not have both of the required 10mm bolts, and as many of you know, finding 10mm bolts over 50mm in length with the stock 14mm head can be challenging. I fished through a box of long random 10mm bolts that had come from various places looking for something. Eventually I saw one that made a light bulb go off and I said ‘no way.’ I got up and went to the engine section of the shop. Sure enough, the factory rocker arm bolts for the 67-80 rockers were a perfect match! I was very excited to share this with the MUD community.😊

The PO had also hacked 3” off the outboard bench seat leg in order to level it and remount it as a forward facing rear bench. :hillbilly: After a cursory check of possible tubing options to replace the amputation, I settled on a used piston wrist pin that was only a millimeter smaller than the original seat tube.
