I think that’s a pretty accurate spray of spring green. Looks exactly like what’s under my dash and in keeping with the ’groovy’ 1960’s colors. Definitely be worth investing in some bell bottoms and Birkenstocks to wear when you’re driving.

When I started sanding my tranny cover the green came through. Beautiful ’40 by the way.

In keeping with this thread, I got my new headlights to light up. After a completely new wiring harness, Koito light kit, engine harness, Dakota Digital Dash, sensors, relays and resistors (I think that’s everything), I really didn’t have much confidence anything would work. Hooked up the battery and the emergency flashers came on (hmmm, never had those before), got those turned off, turned on the headlights, low beam, high beam. Damn. Getting another step closer.

I think it was in ReddingCruiser’s thread where he said just try to accomplish one thing every day. There’s wisdom in those words.

Great photo! And cool article…especially since my hometown was the number one surf town in the article!
Thanks! surf towns are the best just saying. My home town was number 3.

Started preparing the front doors for new OEM weatherstripping and I noticed the door bottoms have some light rust. Everything is still solid I was wondering does anybody have any recommendations for remedying the rust before I put the new weatherstripping on? I will probably have the same concern when I do the rear doors too.
Thanks!

Your last pic looks pretty bad. You might consider cutting that out and replacing with new metal and any kind of rust treatment to prevent/slow any future rust.

In the past I have removed as much loose rust that I can. I then applied Eastwood rust converter, 2 coats. After that I applied Eastwood rust encapsulator. The rust converter has to be top coated with rust encapsulator or paint as converter is just a acid/polymer and offers nothing but a paintable surface. Make sure the drain slots in the bottom of the door are free of debris as that is what causes the rust. Water pools up behind the clogged drain slots. Good luck.

I got patch panel from one of the many vendors and resolved it that way a couple months ago. Had mine chem dipped to strip paint and rust you can’t see first. Down side is the newly painted doors are close to the faded color, but not close enough to keep my OCD from wanting to do more painting now.

With the amount of rust that would be the best plan.

Installed new 4 plus tire carrier and OEM taillights from Toyota. Also from Toyota was the factory hubcap on a new spare. I bought the open cap so I can eventually install a third brake light or a backup light in the center.

@Aloha Jen had posted a great photo of the third taillight in her spare tire a few months back. Doing one right now like it

It’s a great little upgrade, especially with oversized tires on the carrier that can partially obscure your lower brake light.

First open highway fuel economy calc since the LS/NV4500 swap. 21.33 MPG. Around town I am getting 16 to 17 MPG. Pretty happy with that. I had a 2F with a Downey Holley carb and the best I could get was about 11 MPG.

finally found my leak with a leak test dye, just before changing the oil pan gasket for the third time.

Dude…I may be on to #2 myself…but got a great tip from the guys at ACC here in Atlanta. Take my old crappy oil pan that was leaking (I have new one now) and cut the entire pan off, but leaving the frame of the belt-line - where all the bolts pass through. In that way, you can make sure the gasket isn’t squeezing out and adjust it as needed…and you can let it sit for a few hours before removing the frame and then put on the regular oil pan. It works brilliantly…so will do that next time.

Hopefully this is the last part to paint before I can run this truck! Going to give it a few days to dry before I install and put gas back in for fire up.
